Fox reporter fired for watching Wolverine work print

Serves him right. The only thing worse than viewing what the Feds are tracking to prosecute offenders, is to write an article about doing it. What an air head.

Man...I thought my job had drama in it. The leaked Wolverine movies have been out there for some time. I would be lying if I said I did not see the movie.
People in my business have tossed copies my way. I don't agree with it but that happens in the modern Internet world.

So thousands of people have apparently viewed the online bootleg, but this guy was dumb enough to admit in print...and for the same company he worked for yet! Guess he thought if he wrote a favorable review it would excuse the whole pirating thing.

"Hey boss, just wanted to let you know that the office supplies I've been taking home in my briefcase are really great, and we should tell everybody how nifty these staplers are. Tell supply to buy more of them!"

....but so were dozens of other folks on different nerdly review websites I've seen. Weird that this guy gets hammered for it.

Read on Superherohype, Hugh is devastated by the leaked unfinished movie. When you've put so much work in something like that, i would be ****ed too.

But did they work for FOX. and not get fired?? if so he may be able to argue a civil case for compensation but he broke the law so it's a shaky suit at best

Yeah, that's the whole point. He WORKED for FOX, and while one side of the company is going after the net pirates for illegal downloading, this guy actually reviews the film for the same company, and admits to downloading it (boasting a bit about it as well)....knowing full well that his actions were something the company he worked for was against.

Look at it this way: it's the same as if someone leaked a full issue of some upcoming big event Wolverine comic book from Marvel online and then a Marvel employee chatted up the book on his blog. While thousands of readers may have read the issue in question, the Marvel guy has gone over the line by reviewing the book on his website, fully knowing that the company he worked for is being ripped off and the download is stolen material. Not to mention the fact that your company's profitable future depends on the success of such a book or film. So what if the material gets out (unpolished I might add), is negatively recieved, and the film or book tanks? The company runs a loss on it and that loss needs to be made up somewhere. So it trickles down throughout the company. They won't be cutting Hugh Jackman's salary, so they'll start looking for other ways to save. Maybe by cutting the news dept's budget (and that won't be coming out of Bill O' Reilly's salary either). They lay off a couple guys. Thanks for helping Mr Film Blogger!

Now granted, that's not what seems to be happening, I'm sure most people (like me) will go see the film at the cinema center as always. But it could have happened. Wolverine is just a higher profile case, with the whole X-men thing going for it. But what if it had been some small indy film that just wasn't ready to go out there yet and the illegal release killed it altogether before the film was ready?

And I'm sure there's was a clause in this guy's contract concerning disclosure of confidential company information as well, which an illegal downloading of pirated pre-release material would surely be. Most companies have such a thing, I know I've signed such a document as part of the basic hiring package just to work in retail stores. Even WalMart has such an item their employees must sign. And while the information is out there for public viewing, as a company employee his directive should be no comment, let the legal department handle it.

At the very least, the guy was a FOX employee, and while some people these days may think otherwise, you do owe some loyalty to the people that pay your salary. Good luck to this guy finding another job of that caliber after demonstrating such a breach of trust. He's lucky FOX doesn't prosecute or sue him for breach of contract. Again, it's not like the guy was operating in a vacuum...he knew what he was doing was against company policy, let alone being morally wrong. Just because everyone else is looting the flooded downtown stores doesn't make it right for you to jump in and grab a tv- especially if your working for the store who's windows are being smashed in.

I have seen the movie. I didn't download it. I know a guy who knew a guy who knew a guy who knew a gal that did.

The quality wasn't the greatest. From what I can tell, it blows all the X-Men movies away. There was a suprising twist in it that I won't spoil for anyone.

I can't wait until it hits theatres. I will be there to see it for real.
