He left them at his mother's house for decades. Well she died back in the early 80's and he went back home (rural Pennsylvania. I believe Reynoldsville)for the funeral, etc and he told me he was going to bring back all his old comics for me. Of course I was so excited. Well he comes back empty-handed. Told me he used to send his mom money and she didn't believe in banks so she hid her money in books, etc in the house and when she died all his relatives ransacked the house looking for money and he said all the comics were torn up as they were looking for cash so he didn't bother trying to bring any of them back.

Reminds me of the story my uncle told me. Said he use to have lots of the Marvel stuff from the 60s like Spider-Man,Fantastic Four,X-Men and so on. He wound up selling them all for drug money.

    Blasphemy!!!
I thought the Punisher was the best thing marvel ever had to offer.Don't get me wrong I like the hulk and Thor but the punisher just seemed so realistic...LOL

I Think I only paid $65 for mine.
I can't pay much more than that for a comic it just bothers me.Almost causes anxiety to pay that kind of cash for a book.

My granddad was a soda jerk in Brooklyn in 1938, and he ripped the covers off the store's unsold copies of Action #1 and sent them back to the publisher.

Think I'd want Action Comics #1, because that would be a security blanket, it's a book that's never going down in price no matter what.

That's one of the saddest things I've heard in a while... if it were me I would have become depressed for weeks!

For me it was The Punishers first appearance. That and Jonah Hex,those are my grails...
Dreams do come true. The nice thing about the punisher one was it really didn't set me back that much...Whew.
Unlike a superman or batman first appearance...I feel sorry for you guys in that sense as the prices are unobtainable for your average collector. It just seems unfair.

Captain America Comics #1. Back in 1985 I had the chance to own it for $1000 but the cover was trashed since the picture of Captain America was cut out. The rest of the comic was in good condition. Wish I would have got it.

I suppose I'd love to own Whiz COmics #2, the first appearance of Shazam aka Captain Marvel. I've never actually priced this, so I have no idea the value compared to others of the period. I'm sure it's nowhere near the first appearances of Batman or Superman, but it's value to me would be higher.
