    DC's new weekly Wednesday Comics!!

Looks like that the new weekly to follow Trinity will be an anthology title called Wednesday Comics. Kyle Baker leaked the title. It will be arcs featuring different DC characters. The first will probably be Baker's Hawkman, after that, its supposed to rotate with different characters and creators. Darwyn Cooke is working on something for it, too.

Very interested in this! Hopefully the weekly anthology format works. I wonder though how this Hawkman will fit in with the recent Jim Starlin reboot attempt.

Editor's note: this reboot takes place after the current reboot but before the next reboot.

I don't even think they are going to be reboots. Just multi issue stand alone stories.

Hmmm, more art this time costarring Aquaman.

Maybe this is going to be a Silver Age anthology?

This is going to be neat seeing Baker's take on these characters, especially considering he's most recently known for his humorous approach to Plastic Man. The above pics remind me of something with an early-Flash Gordon kinda of flavor to them.

Baker does Kubert in that first pic. Looks good.

Now THIS I can get behind. Showcase for great talent and characters, and it looks like editorial will be stepping out of the way. Almost sounds like Solo Weekly.

The above scene is on Dinosaur Island!!, Baker mentioned it in an interview.

                    more really interesting news:

                    MORE ON WEDNESDAY

One little wrinkle of information to come my way about the upcoming weekly series from DC, “Wednesday Comics," is that the comic will be printed at four-times-normal size. Possibly in an attempt to mirror the old US newspaper strips like "The Spirit" of old. Which may explain the many-multiple-panels-per-page that we’ve seen on Kyle Baker’s advance art so far.

Nice one DC. Really solid idea

WOW!!! 4 times the size of a regular book!! Hope the price doesn't match it.

Dark Horse tried that with a book a few years ago- ClockMaker or something. It shipped comic size but unfolded. Went away pretty quick- obviously a poor format.

Nice plannin' there, Danny Boy. Then after this tanker sinks, then you can go on about how the fans won't support an anthology book, how they won't support Hawkman & Aquaman, yadda-yadda. Why don't you just do it right instead of another gimmick?

Oh, and has everyone by now heard how Didio is back-pedaling on Aquaman coming back in Final Crisis? That wasn't the "real" Aquaman now, it was the Aquaman of another Earth who was just helping out, but now he's back on that other Earth. After he got called on announcing Aquaman was to be part of the Blackest Night event. NO CLUE WHAT HE HAS GOING ON.

And this will be a Hawkman revamp. Apparently both Hawks died in Final Crisis and will be redone with new histories (again!) because Didio felt the Johns version was too complicated. Hawkman has appeared in JSA which definately takes place after Final Crisis as the war with Darkseid is both mentioned as fact and Evil Mary marvel is in the new issue.

AGAIN, NOT A CLUE. CAN SOMEONE BUY DIDIO A MEMO PAD TO TAKE NOTES?

Jeez, Dan, at least have your secretary type up an outline for you. Cannot imagine what your taxes must look like.

Yeah, I was wondering what crack pipe he'd been smokin' when I read that....

So where's the recent Jim Starlin revamp of Johns revamp fit into all of this?

Can they just fire him and save the money on the memo pads that he wouldn't use anyway...?

Personally, I just ignore what Didio says and enjoy the stories. The big format comic will be interesting, and the book's editor has lined up some great talent for it so far. There is a LOT of Kyle Baker's Hawkman art out there and it looks like nothing but a nonstop action story, no sign of a revamp.

Oh, I'll give the Anthology book a try, I will. I love anthology books. Honestly, I really hope it succeeds, I love Hawkman & I love Aquaman. I'd just rather they didn't try an experimental format on a series that will be a tough go to begin with, it just seems like your planning to fail. Kyle Baker's done some great stuff, but will that carry a book people aren't crazy about owning? History shows off-kilter sizing doesn't sell well, with the possible exception of digest-size books, and to a certain extent the Treasury size books.

Dunno how the Starlin bit fits in to a Hawks revamp, but Didio did say both Hawks died in Final Crisis but will be reborn. Take that for what you will. No one really knows if what he said on Friday afternoon still applies on Monday morning.

Did anyone ever read the Legends of The DC Universe series a few years ago? Some good stuff in there and there were two really great Annuals that were anthologies. I know there was hope that Adventure Comics would be an anthology book, but it's looking like that will be a new Kon-El Superboy book with the Legion of Super-Heroes backup?

The Annuals of Legends of DC Universe were the best of the bunch IMO. As for the new Adventure Comics, I would have preferred an all-out anthology as well, but at least with the line-up you mentioned the book IS returning to its roots, or at least it's best known incarnation.
