Your dreams have just been answered as the current issue is a two parter.
There was also another story earlier in the run that was a two parter as well.

I'd also like to see him meet up with some other DC western heroes besides Bat Lash & El Diablo.
If done well it could be cool that is not a bad idea and also something that wasn't done in the first series.

I'm hoping it's El Papagayo coming back as the villain.
Same here brother,Same here.I would like to see more of starman as well.

I don't think they ever did a return from the future story though, and basically it's been ignored. There was a modern female version of Hex in Superboy a few years ago, but I think that's been ignored as well.
Yes nothig has ever been said of his return just that he would return one day.
I do have a copy of the superboy hex/girl issues as well. Not bad but just not Hex to me.

Keith Giffen is NOT one of my favorite artists, his early Kirby rip-offs were terrible. I think if the Ambush Bug stuff wouldn't have hit at the tme it did, he would have faded away, but it gave him the boost to get on series like Justice League and do the "funny stuff" there as well. Meh.
    I feel your pain!!!
That is what his crappy appearance in Hex reminded me of a very, very poorly done ambushbug bunch of drawings jumbled together...
“When you say “It’s hard”, it actually means “I’m not strong enough to fight for it”. Stop saying its hard. Think positive!”

I agree. That's very refreshing instead of the multi-issue, never-ending nothing stories out there. Oddly though, a few of the one-issue stories I felt could've been a little better had they gone an extra issue here and there.

I'm going to have to do some digging. I seem to recall something. Not an actual "he's in the future and here's what happens" but more of a "he just returned after being missing" story. Not sure.

Of the new Hex artists, I really like Jordi Bernet's art, reminds me of Alex Toth a bit, Darwyn Cooke a lot.

I agree. He has that feel to his art and it fits most of the time.

Of the original run I always like Jose Garcia-Lopez, an artist that doesn't get anywhere near the amount of praise he should (along with Jim Aparo).

JLGL is one of my all-time favorite artists. Never got his due. He is just as good as Neal Adams. His recent Deadman series was a magnificent treat! Another artist I never liked while he was alive was Alfredo Alcala but I just drink in his art now in back issues.

I know he can do decent art. I can't figure out who told him to do the type of art he was doing when he ruined JH.
I never knew Ambush Bug's first & second appearances were in DC Comics Presents. I just recently read those issues and he wasn't nearly the buffoon/joke then that he ended up as. He was actually a Superman Villain.

I believe it was an issue of secert origins from the late 80s which mentions his disapperence but i can't recall the issue number off hand

Yeah that was my first guess up earlier in this thread.
I'm going to go dig it out and check. Luckily I have that title already filed so i know where it is.
Just gotta figure out the issue.

OK here is the issue. 1987 #21. Cover by Garcia-Lopez!!! JH art by Gray Morrow!!!
I guess it's more of a confirmation that HEX #1-18 is actually in continuity more than anything. It doesn't explain how he got back but definitely does mention it.

I was BIG into the Road Warrior back then and I NEVER read Jonah Hex. I didn't even own 1 issue (except the last ish of the series which led directly into HEX). I loved HEX and that is what got me to like the character. I would have never bought any issues of JH had I not been introduced to him in HEX.
I just wish they would've tied it up with an actual story.
The letters page of that S.O. ish above mentions that (as of that issue) the story of how Hex returned from the future has yet to be told but we know he did return.

Yes I have that issue I thought that may be the one you were talking about but I wasn't sure. But yes they never really tell you how he got back. There is also some mention of it in the "who's who" from that time as well.A two page spread on Jonah Hex.

There is also a really cool story that takes place in the 80's I think where some dudes are trying to steal his corpse and he ends up killing one or two of them while he is a dead stuffed cowboy it was kinda cool.I'd have to dig that one up though if you want to know which one it is.

I was also a huge road warrior fan so the Hex series was Awesome as well!!!

That's the Secret Origins story from above. I had to re-read it once I dug it out, LOL.
It also references the Jonah Hex Spectacular from 1978 in that same story. Highly recommended.

Just finished reading issues 43 and 44.
I still love this series the stories I think are still pretty fresh.
                    Any other thoughts?

Wasn't jumping out of my seat over the last issue. Kind of felt like I missed part of the story when they start in the middle like that (or near the end I guess would be more accurate). Not a huge fan of long sequences without captions or dialogue and the artist (Gulacy) isn't my favorite. He's a little uneven. Sometimes really good and other times a little off (see girl on cover. she looks a little off but also looks great in some interior sequences).
Still love the book. As long as they keep the same basic artists, I don't mind that they keep rotating them. I guess that keeps it fresh but also leaves things a tad disconnected. The next 6 issues are one storyline. I wonder what they have planned for #50?

I know what you mean by middle of the story but they back filled it at the end so I was okay with that.I think they cut a few short to make room for the new powergirl crap at the end.
I would like to see something big in #50 reminiscent of the old JH spectacular.
A return of el papagayo perhaps or better yet a return of starman.
I recently saw a few pics of the up coming movie as well looks pretty cool.
