Hi to all of you, thanks for coming back again for another round 'o trivia!
This week's musical guest-star returns us to our MEGO FIGURE roots, so ladies and gentlemen, may I present CHER!
YouTube - Cher - Gypsys Tramps And Thieves
Cher was hot back then. Too bad she's a bad parody of herself these days. I blame Gene Simmons.
Onward, then!
For any newcomers, here's da rulz:
I'll post five (5) questions about the 1970s ERA COMIC BOOK related adventures of various MEGO figures.
First person to answer all of them correctly will get a little prize package of a random '70s comic, a couple random Mego cards, and some assorted 1970s oddball goodies. Now don't get too excited...you're not gonna get anything worth a million bucks. Actually, the junk I plan to unload on the "winner"...excuse me, I mean, the fine collectible items I plan to offer as prizes will entertain you (I hope), and we'll all have a good time.
And just maybe, if you're not too careful, you just might learn something. Or not.
As far as the answers, please try to keep them all together in one post so we don't have to jump around collecting them all, and since I don't have any anti-Googling software in place I can't stop you there.
Oh, and please remember that all answers are subject to the final decision of the judge, which be me, so no arguing, it's all for fun, so let's not get crazy!
So without further ado, in the words of the Immortal Navin Johnson, "Step right up and win some crap!"
MEGO STAR QUESTION #1- SUPERGIRL:
The Maid of Might had a couple runs at a solo series during the seventies. She had a long run in Adventure Comics, an era in which DC played fast and loose with her powers & abilities. For awhile her powers would come and go, thanks to a mickey slipped her by a relative of one of her cousin's biggest foes. Not a big success, DC never could decide if her book was a superhero or romance title. She headlined her own title briefly, until it was rolled into one giant size book along with Jimmy Olsen & Lois Lane to form the Superman Family.
My question is: WHO WAS THE VILLAINESS THAT CAUSED SO MUCH TROUBLE FOR SUPERGIRL DURING HER ADVENTURE COMICS RUN?
MEGO STAR QUESTION #2- THE BLACK HOLE:
Believe it or not, sci-fi was big in the '70s! There was this little b-movie called Star Wars that kinda went over somewhat with the public, and well, there were a few toys and such that seemed to do well. Soon everybody wanted to use the Force, and lots of sci-fi stuff started coming out. Some of it was even pretty good. Sadly, The Black Hole from Walt Disney wasn't even close to being in that pretty good category. Still, they did manage to merchandise the film, and there were a handful of comic books from Gold Key.
My question is: WHAT FAMOUS COMIC BOOK ARTIST WAS HIRED TO ADAPT THE BLACK HOLE INTO A NEWSPAPER COMICS STRIP?
MEGO STAR QUESTION #3- GREEN ARROW:
I always thought it was weird that Green Arrow got a Mego figure and Flash & Green Lantern didn't. Especially sad for GL, whose coattails Oliver Queen was riding for a number of years. After those hard travelin' heroes broke up, GA went back to Star City and hooked up with Black Canary- another one who shoulda had a figure. Well, she did have a great figure, especially in those fishnets & leather boots!
My question is: WHAT IS GREEN ARROW'S FAVORITE FOOD?
MEGO STAR QUESTION #4- DRACULA:
The Lord of the Undead did pretty well for himself in the comic book field. He's headlined quite a few series. Of course, the most successful was Marvel's TOMB OF DRACULA. Arguably the best horror series of all time, it ran for quite awhile, pitting Drac against the Vampire hunting team of Frank Drake, Quincy Harker, Rachel Van Helsing, and most famously Blade the Vampire Slayer. Not to mention Doctor Strange & the Silver Surfer!!
My question is: WHAT WAS THE NAME OF QUINCY HARKER'S DOG?
MEGO STAR QUESTION #5- THE HUMAN TORCH:
Bet you were wondering when ol' johnnystorm would be featuring his namesake, The Human Torch! During the '70s the Team-Up book hit it's stride, and Marvel , never ones to miss out on a trend, peppered the stands with 'em! Spider-Man of course starred in a long run of Marvel Team-Up. The Thing had Marvel 2-in-1, but the Rawhide Kid managed only a single issue of Western Team-Up. Johnny Storm himself holds the record for most team-ups with Spidey in MTU (8 times!), but he also appeared as the STAR of MTU six times, sans Spidey, teamed with other Marvel heroes! I guess Marvel was testing the waters for a spin-off comic, but sadly it never came to be.
My question is: WHAT MARVEL HEROES APPEARED WITH THE HUMAN TORCH IN HIS SOLO ISSUES OF MARVEL TEAM-UP?
Ok, so there you have it. On the count of three, you may begin!
