Dark Knight design question

OK dumb question: I know Batman's design in the comics and for the sake of the actor in the movies, has his mouth open so he can talk, etc. But if the suit in the movies is armor, and taking it the next logical step, why would you leave part of your face exposed?

I dunno.... same reason why you'd go into combat with a giant cape? (On a motorcycle no less....)

In the current films the fabric of the cape reacts to an electrical charge. Use the correct charge and the cape takes a specific shape. Hence it is shaped to be a glider allowing Batman some flight capability.

Batman's mouth is left uncovered probably to match what the character looks like in the comics. There's no logical reason for it.

A better question is why do other superheroes do it? Batman's not the only one.
