I really want this to be good, but from everyones opinion in here, comparing it to the comic, it looks like it's gonna suck. I will see it either way and I don't know the story at all really, so maybe I won't be disappointed. From the trailer, His "Flying" looks pretty cheesy. Like some guy lying on a rig in front of a green screen.

Ohhh, I'll see it. I never read the Comics,.. so nothing will affect my opinion there..

So far these Miller movies are hit & Miss for me... I liked 300 ,.. But seriously coun't really care for Sin City outside of the Marv Story line.

But I am not jump'in out to the theaters to see the flick,.. it will be DVD for me.

Shame on anyone that calls themselves a comic fan that has not read any Eisner Spirit.

I just hope it's better than the Sam J. Jones TV movie from back in the '80's. I read a little of The Spirit. One or two issues. a few newspaper strips. The Spirit seems to be a little bit "dated". kinda like Buck Rogers, The Shadow, Flash Gordon...

I'd like to see it on the big screen, but...

Probably the best and cheapest way to introduce yourself to the Spirit is to hunt the back issue bins for the old black and white Kitchen Sink reprints from the 80s. There've been DC Archives of the Spirit but they're much pricey, especially if you're not sure if the Spirit is your bag or not. And I'd start out by reading the Eisner stuff...you can read the DC updated series later if you dig the concept. The Spirit has a neat supporting cast and some cool villains but the real cool characters are the various femme fatales that float in and out of the series.

If you read the old stuff and go in with the mindset that it's a product of its times, it still holds up very well today. And keep in mind that Eisner crammed more story and substance into his 8 little pages than Miller will do with his 2-hour flick.

If the concept seems dated, try the new DC series...they update and tweak some of the aspects of the series and try to give it a modern flavor.

BK, the Batman/Spirit crossover thing was not by Eisner. And it was way more than a few months back. Cooke managed to capture some of the flavor of the Eisner stuff, he missed a lot of the subtleties of the original strip.

Spirit away from this one folks...

The Spirit Movie Reviews, Pictures - Rotten Tomatoes

See, I already don't like that poster...MY CITY SCREAMS...nothing but pompous and pretentious gooey crap.

Sin City and 300 were not bad...but IMO not great either....the constant narration in both films, plus all that blue screen...gets rather annoying after a while.

Please Mr Miller (in his directorial debut)...your stories are cool...but stay away from directing, lol.

Actually, Hec, that poster is in line with Eisner's design sense. Although it would be more colorful.

I saw it Christmas Day. It was alright, not the greatest of films. The visuals were pretty neat, but the plot and acting was pretty cheesy.
