I have a hard time believing this has any chance of working if it's anyone but Dick taking over as Batman. It would work for the same reason I believe Wally West worked as The Flash. Instead alienating long-time readers with a non-sensical change it's a natural passing of the torch to a character with a rich history of it's own both as a whole and as part of the
the character lore itself.
