    I Thought This Was Funny.

Got some time off for the holidays, so I pulled out my collection of All-Star Squadron to read through. I'm even reading the editorials and letters to the editor sections.

In one of the Letters to the Editor, some dude expressed his joy in finding the comic and in his exuberance, expressed a desire to see it made into a Saturday Morning Cartoon. This is Roy Thomas' response.

We'd love it, John - if we thought the TV networks would let the show resemble the comic. But we can almost see it now: No more than five or six regular members, with no "confusing" guest stars or rotating lineup...no World War Two, of course, because that's ancient history and war besides, and since that's an unpleasant topic to some people, why mention it?...oh yes, and of course the Squadron would have to acquire either a super-powered dog or a pair of masked youngers (sic) (one boy, one girl) or all of the above. Sounds just like what you and we would want, doesn't it? All in all, maybe we're better off staying in the so-called "funny books", at least in the present.

Geez, think folks at DC were still smarting from Super Friends?

All-Star Squadron was a great series. Very worth the money just in the time it took to read an issue compared to other comics. Roy Thomas put his heart and soul into it and DC ripped it out of his chest and stomped on it while it was still beating.
See: Crisis on Infinite Earths for explanation.

Glad to see some love for All-Star Squadron!

Being a History Buff it played right into everything that I loved at the time. I am truly enjoying re-reading these. They stand the "test of time and distance".

No wonder the main writers were smarmy when it came to making their creations into a Saturday Morning Cartoon.

Plotlines for the first incarnation of the Super Friends did not involve any of the familiar DC Comics supervillains. Rather, they focused on the often far-fetched schemes of various mad scientists and aliens, who were revealed at some point in the program to be well-intentioned but pursuing their goals through an unlawful or disreputable means. Typically, at the end, all that is needed is a peaceful and reasonable discussion to convince the antagonists to adopt more reasonable methods.

That would be hard to do with Hitler and Tojo, huh?

i would have loved a cartoon of it done right, still would! Yeah roy was promised his piece of the DC universe would be safe and then they nailed him the most with the changes they made. such a shame. but i do still love a team with about 65 members, must come from being a Legion fan! Have any of you read Roys new WW2 series Anthem ? quite interesting! but slow to come out and some issues are only online.
