Glad to hear from the kid of the sixties.

So I guess it started during the original Batman craze,at the least.

It's interesting to ponder how such things spread before it was broadcast over TV.

I guess it spread much like urban legends do.

Am I misunderstanding here? You DO see the connection between
an "egg" and a "robin" (i.e. a bird), correct?

I made up a second verse:

              "Jingle Bells, Batman smells
              Robin laid an egg
              The Batmobile lost a wheel
              And the Joker got away...

              (My verse)
              The Riddler's bored, Penquin scored
              Catwoman has fleas
              King Tut kidnapped Batgirl
And sold her to Mr. Freeze."
"Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."

It's truly amazing how things like this spread, way back in the day without internet & such. EVERYBODY knows this song, but nobody knows where it came from or how they learned it.
And there are others...how many know this one (or a version of it)?

"McDonald's is your kind of place...
                They feed you rattlesnakes!
Pickles up your nose, french fries between your toes!
Ketchup running down your back- I want my money back!
Before I have a heart attack!"

                -or-

                "Comet- it tastes like gasoline!
Comet- it makes teeth turn green!
                Comet- it tastes like vomit!
So get some Comet-and vomit- today!"

we did the one about comet in NM.
I also recall the batman song as a fine schoolyard singalong. Don't know who started the singing tho.
Another fave had something to do with baseball and diarrhea. Ahhh the innocence of childhood.

Being a kid in the sixties with older brothers i heard the batman one since the mania period i thought my older brother came up with it who knows and the McDonalds and comet ones as well. i thought my cousins came up with the comet one. but they probably heard it from someone, they weren't very original.

I have a friend who insists that it's "batmobile lost a wheel and the Joker took ballet".

There was a very non-politically correct one about Michael Jackson, and his Pepsi commercial mishap that I remember. It was based on the first few lines of the pledge of allegiance. I won't repeat it here.

Diarrhea song is universal it seems, with some funny variations. Cha-cha-cha.

I had never heard of the Mcdonalds on until my husband and a fellow co worker both started up singing it one day. Seems to be popular with kids born in the mid 60's. As far as Batman Smells, I was born in 76 and heard it all through school.

Then there was the popular, On Top of Ole Smoky, parody: On Top of Spaghetti
