Okay, before we get started, let's get this out of the way:
"Smallvile sucks!"
"Is that still on?"
"I wish they'd just cancel it"
I hope that caught it all. I will admit that I don't like everything they do on Smallville, and the limitations put on the show by the creators, and WB trying not to water down the movie franchise does hold the show back. But they have surprised me this season, and despite a few things I wish they could change, they have definitely moved past the Dawson's Creek-style teen angst.
Last night Doomsday appeared. No, really. He was kept in shadow a lot, but what you saw of him looked straight up from the comics. When they announced Doomsday would be brought in as a human EMT, I thought they had really done it this time, and the show was hopeless. Turns out they actually ADDED to the character of Doomsday, and made him even more of a convincing threat, and took the comic backstory, and tied it into two major Superman villains, and it all fits really well.
Last night was a mid-season cliffhanger. New shows don't air until Jan. 15. The Legion of Super Heroes is stopping by to help with Doomsday.
If you ever liked this show and haven't watched it in a while, give it another try. I was about ready to give up on it, but this is shaping up to be the best season yet.
