Has Your Taste In Comics Ever Changed?

I'm not talking about growing into something more sophisticated. I mean developing a liking for stuff you never dreamed you would even consider reading.

In my case, I have recently started digging some of the Western Comics from the 60s and 70s. Marvel, DC...either one have titles that are seeming really cool to me, lately. I wouldn't touch them as a kid.

Have any of you ever run with the assumption that you didn't like a title or genre, only to discover you were missing out?

    Oh yes, plenty of times.
I avoided comics like Warlord, Jonah Hex, war comics.
Even high profile ones like Brave & the Bold I never bought.
My main collecting is 70's DCs and I've found a lot that I enjoyed after reading them for the first time.
One that I just finished reading was the first 10 issues of Arak. I wouldn't touch that with a 10 foot pole when it was new. Now I think I want to find the rest of the run.
Right now I'm just starting the original Swamp Thing run. These are magnificent so far. While I'm pretty sure I must've read these in a reprint somewhere; I really don't recall the stories at all (up to issue 3 as of today).

Yep! I used to read only the mainstream stuff from DC and to a lesser extent Marvel.
I got back into comics a couple years ago when I started schlepping for AC, and found I cant stand any of the current big 2 stuff. Now, I pick up mostly IDW's classic Trek titles, Dynamites western titles (Lone Ranger and Man with No Name), and any other western, retro super hero, or unique sci fi title that catches my eye.

I like the DC reprint books that came out the last couple years as well...although Showcase looks like a goner, the color Batman and Superman compilations are great!!

Oh yeah, and I used to absolutely HATE Jack Kirby artwork but in the 80's when I started collecting more back issues I began to appreciate his style.

However I mostly do just stick with the DC Books. I buy atleast 12 DC Books every Month,.. to the 3 Marvel Books.

                    Hmmmm....

I kinda lucked out, since I'd always read durned near everything. When I was around 7 years old I got a copy of the "World Encyclopedia of Comics" and read it cover to cover. A few times. It became a big wish list for me, and ever since I've been tracking down the ones I'd like to read. (Which is most of them....)

Not really which is why i really don't read anything recent - my tates never got sophiticated. I have enough drama in life I prefer the simplicity of old comics

It might be me, but I've grown tired of the way modern comics are presented. The plots seem "too complicated", the panels too overcrowded. I started reading comics in the early 70s, and I prefer those simpler times. When men didn't all look like body builders, and women didn't all have F-cups.
Not that I don't like women with F-cups, mind you, but that's something different.

I also hate the fact that every hero dies, and is resurrected two years later, when the novelty of killing him off has expired, and they want to boost sales again.
                        How's Captain A, btw?

I also hate the fact that they reboot series, starting back from issue 1 again, losing all feeling of "history" and continuity.

Apart from that, I truly love modern comics.....

That's one thing that really irks me to no end.
I'm one of those that is still mad about Crisis (and I mean the original one, COIE, not one of the newer ones) mainly because they killed off Supergirl and screwed up the Legion and JSA continuity so bad (not to mention jettisoning all the Superman history).
I also have a beef with the way Overstreet decided to list the Superman series numbers. If you are aware at all, when Byrne took over Superman, DC renamed Superman (1939 series) as Adventures of Superman and started a new Superman at #1. Well they recently reverted the title back to just Superman and kept the original numbering going and canceled the newer Superman title with number two hundred-something. In overstreet they list the current Superman numbering under the Byrne Superman heading instead of under the original 1939 series. My opinion is they should incorporate the Adv of Superman and just note in the heading: "title changed to Adv of S #xxx to #xxx, reverted back to Superman with #xxx.
Just a peeve I have. LOL
How many times do they have to restart JLA, Teen Titans & Legion anyway?
