Doctor Strange 1978 live showing on Toon

For those of you who have wanted a perfect copy of this movie - you are in luck. Next week Cartoon Network is aring it. I'll have to check on the time and day. I set my DVR to record it.

I have a DVD copy I made form a tape that i dubbed from a tape that i taped from sci fi 13 years ago so I am going to get a better copy.

I actually just rewatched this a couple months ago while getting my marketplace megos ready. It is very good. The datedness of it seems to work for this film. It does a nice job of adapting the character to tv live.

If you are looking to compare it to 2008 big budget movies - skip it. If you enjoy the character, time period and comic movies WATCH IT!

I remember watching the tv movie when it originally aired and greatly enjoyed it. I also have a vhs copy that I bought a few years ago and watch it every now and then.

Cartoon Network? Really? Sure it's not the direct-to-video animated movie from last year? I know they show live action movies now, but they are normally of the more recent variety.

I figured it would be the new toon as well. I clicked info it says it stars Peter Hooten and was made 1978. (according to WOW! cable, Columbus OH)

I saw that, too . . . although I have the '78 movie on tape from the Sci-Fi channel years ago (y'know, back before it was ECW, BSG and SG1 all the flippin' time), I'm still thinking Saturday's showing is the straight-to-DVD animated movie and someone at CN put the title in wrong -- the '78 movie is "Dr. Strange" while the animated movie is "Doctor Strange" -- so the various cable and satellite guides mapped the showing to the wrong movie.

Either way, I'm watching . . .

A young woman named Clea Lake becomes a pawn of the Sorceress Morgan Le Fay. The primary defender of our world against threats of a magical nature, the Sorcerer Supreme, is presently a man named Thomas Linmer (a scramble of Merlin). He and his man-servant Wong contact a psychiatrist named Stephen Strange, who is the heir to his father's potential to become Lindmer's disciple and the next Sorcerer Supreme. Strange bears his father's magical ring as a sign of this, and he has already sensed something wrong, but does not recognize the importance of these feelings of apprehension. Lindmer must convince Strange of the reality of the mystical world werein the battle between good and evil is played out on a magical level, all unbeknownst to the mundane world, to save Clea and thwart Morgan's plans.

Does Cartoon Network realize its actual people? Or do they just not care anymore about staying in the animated world?

They've been showing "real" movies like Spidey 3 and Men in Black, but I'm betting the wrong info was grabbed too.

I'd love it if it wasn't. I only saw that Dr. Strange movie once about 20 years ago.

Yeah...I could go either way on this, but I guess we'll know for sure come Saturday Evening.

Points positive:
As Chris pointed out, they have been showing real movies AND in that time slot.

1978 to 2008 equals 30 years. Might be an "anniversary" thing.

It is entirely possible that they got the wrong movie info for the program info, but all things considered, it is equally likely that all is "as stated".

I just checked it. It says 2007 animated...... i don't think it's the 70's movie.....
