Who is Madman?

While I was getting new glasses today, I came across a Madman lunchbox at a stationary store. It was an impulse buy, but it looked so comic bookish-ly cool, that I had to have it. I thought it was some made up character until I saw Dark Horse Comics on the handle. I may not even keep it, but I may trade it or give it as a gift to a friend. But I still wanna know...
