    Bronze age war comics

Anyone know the title of these two Bronze age war comics?

The first had this soldier damned by the grim reaper cause he dies a cowards death to jump into recently dead soldiers on both sides of WWII. Doomed to die over and over again. Eventually he replaces the grim reaper.

The second involves a Monster squad type deal. An American platoon with a werewolf, vampire a marine patched up after a mine blast that looked like frankenstein.

Lo there do I see my Father.
Lo there do I see my Mother and my Sisters and my Brothers.
Lo there do I see the line of my people back to the begining.
    Lo they do call me.
They bid me take my place among them.
In the halls of Valhalla where the brave may live forever.

The Creature Commandos were featured in WEIRD WAR TALES back in the early 80s when DC decided that all of their anthology titles needed a regular feature. WWT had Creature Commandos and G.I. Robot.

The Creature COmmandos are making a comeback somewhere. It might be in Action or Superman.

WAR IS HELL featured John Kowalski, the doomed soldier who took over the bodies of other soldiers during WW2 (very much like Quantum Leap minus Al). It was a short-run feature in the mid-70S from Marvel Comics. The series ran in issues #9 to 15.

THE CREATURE COMMANDOS ran in WEIRD WAR TALES #93 to 124. The team was Griffith the Werewolf, Velcro the vampire, "Lucky" Taylor the rebuilt Frakenstein Soldier, and Dr. Medusa, a lady scientist with snakes for hair. They were led by Lt. Shrieve, a normal human. Later they were joined by JAKE, the G.I. Robot (with his robot cat & dog!).
All were blasted into space by an experimental rocketship during WW2 (along with series writer Robert Kanigher who went with them!!), but DC is somehow bringing them back next month in Action Comics. There is a second series from the 90s of the CC, but it's pretty much out of continuity. The current War that Time Forgot series features the GI Robot, presumably an earlier model.

^^^ I think the CC are coming back due to Brainiac finding them in space.

I get really nervous when characters I like come back.... but THIS smacks of the silly ol' 1970's DC.... so I MIGHT hafta read it.

Weird War was such a strange comic. (The original, not the 90's Vertigo one.) The stories were either genuinely creepy, thoughtful, and well done; or harkened back to the 50's "Mystery in Space" style gonzo madness. And there was NOTHING in-between! Kinda makes me wonder who the target audience was. Or even better: if they just put out whatever seemed like a good idea at the time regardless of who might read it. I wish more folks did that.

I really liked the CC and hesitate to see DC bring them back...usually at DC nowadays that means a violent dismembering shortly after you show up.

I'd like to see Marvel revive the John Kowalski war stories too, that was a great series, probably ahead of it's time. Again though, a revival would probably lead to a MAX version with tons of blood & sex, just like they did recently with Phantom Eagle. Sorry, Howard Chaykin is a great artist, but really, really obsessed with gratuitous sex in his characters. More than necessary for a good story. Sometimes too much IS too much.
