I'm not up on current or even recent comic books but I'm wondering why
Guy Gardner is know by his real name and not Green Lantern.

I think the short answer is because he didn't care to conceal his real identity from the public. He quit wearing a mask a while back (Hal Jordan still does). And if all 5 of Earth's Green Lanterns are hanging out together, it gets confusing really fast calling each other "GL" ("Do you mean me?""No, that other GL").Comment

Yeah,.. All the Green Lanterns,.. Are Pretty Much Called Green Lanterns. However when you read the Books,.. or Get involved with the characters, it's pretty difficult Just to call each of the The Green Lantern. That Would Get Confusing.
Go Get Hal Jordan, John Stewart, Guy, Kyle Rayner & Allen Scott all in a Room,.. & Say Hey Green Lantern,.. or Hey GL !? .. Watch all there Heads Turn... I guess it would be like saying "Hey Jason",.. & you would Have about 15 People Here on the Museum Saying "What" ?
I think as far as the Name thing Goes,.. In More so recent yrs,.. Like Late 80's ,to today.... The Green Lantern Books have become real Huge for DC... There's alot going on with them,.. even more so with Characters. & Earth Has 5 of them.... The Original Knight ..., Often Imitated, However Never Duplicated. The 1st Knight in Customs.

I thought it was 'cos he's not OFFICIALLY a Green Lantern. Wasn't he supposed to be Hal's understudy, but was activated by a group of renegage Guardians?

Yep, he was originally Hal's back-up in case of injury but he's been official for some years now. Guy is currently one of the GLCorps honor guard..Comment
