I like to add one more thing...and it's that I'm definately not a completest. I regularly thin My Collection by trading them in at the Comic Store, BATMAN Books included. I do agree with ctc...that if They're putting out a BAD Book that You're unhappy with the writing(or Art)...then You have already lost Your favorite Hero. But like I said...I still have to see this through to the bloody end.

I'd like to see some nice single issue Batman "detective" style stories like the days of yore....everything doesn't have to be multi-issue arcs that keep building and building on what has previously come before until they run out of ideas and have to revamp/reboot again and again. Lose the soap opera elements once in a while and just tell a freakin' good story every now and again. That's all I ask.

Morrison's problem on this R.I.P. arc is that he's trying to tie in to everything that's happened to Batman over a 60+ year period. I listened to an interview where someone asked him about the significance of the "Rainbow Batman" that appeared in a panel of one of the earliest issues of R.I.P. His response was "Rainbow Batman" happened when Bruce Wayne was about 24 years old. Is that necessary? Did "Rainbow Batman" need to be a a part of the current verisons continuity? The answer is no...that concept is a part of the time in which it was created (Sci-Fi 50s Batman) and has no place with the modern day interpretation of the Dark Knight. When you start including EVERYTHING under the sun that's happened to a character in his illustrious 60+ year career you're gonna run into problems. I love continuity and all the old-school stuff as much as the next guy but that's just ridiculous IMO. I can see why it's hard to throw these books at a new reader and expect him to figure everything out when you're reaching back 50 years for references.

you know. I have been a Bat fan my entire life. I have a huge collection from back in the day. But by the mid nineties the story lines were getting so stale I stopped collecting all together, I tried getting back into it when DK2 came out but it could not capture my interest. I am giving it a go again with the RIP story but it is very confusing and I have to agree with the rest of you the story line sucks. But in fairness, the latest crisis crossover leaves a lot to be desired too. The final crisis series is just as convoluted and confusing as RIP. They need to get their act together and get back to great story telling.

Why Marvel, DC and sometimes Image (or is it Top Cow now?) books suck:
