    Smallville Season 8 premiere

    Anyone catch it?

    SEMI-SPOILERS

It shows promise, which I didn't really think it would after losing Rosenbaum as Lex. Jettisoning Lana was THE move they should have made long ago. Positioning Clark to actually start ACTING like Superman on a full-time basis was also a great move. More Green Arrow is always good, and even though Aqua-Bro and the Black Racoon...er...Canary weren't much more than hostages, it was good to see them too.

It think the best part was the creators more or less admitting that last season was pretty weak overall, and having a new direction for the show rather than just more of the "Young and the Capeless".

Seeing a non-Superman, non-glasses-wearing-Clark at the Daily Planet will be weird, but I know that even if they wanted to do so, BIG WB wouldn't let them mow into their feature film yard too much.

Still not sure how a paramedic becomes Doomsday, but I'll reserve judgement. Geoff Johns said it works, so that means something. Looking forward to his Legion episode.

Oh and to you guys who hate the show, I know, Smallville sucks. Even I admit it gets tedious at times, but overall, it's a better distraction that most televison, even at it's worst.

I think Clark should put on the glasses when he's Superman, it makes more sense now.

Clark is clearly wearing glasses (and I believe a blue suit) during a brief shot in the new introduction. He wore them once before in one of those "It's a Wonderful Life" type episodes, but I am guessing they will be pulling them out a bit more often.

If he ever gets a costume its going to be a sleeveless hoodie with a big S on the front. Maybe the hood will be red.

            No doubt.
I am so sick of people ruining the characters I loved growing up.

I've just decided Smallville is an Elseworlds that can in no way jibe with any Superman canon previously known. It makes it easier to take some of the "liberties", and then I can enjoy it for what it is.

I have only seen the first 5 seasons. . .and loved all of it, despite the straying from previously established facits. I just enjoy ot for what it is, and at least it brings a little super hero magic into my life from time to time.

LEX made the show. . .sed to hear he is gone!!!

the episode was better than I thought it would be. I agree with everything Chris said. I didn't care for the Manhunter losing his powers though.

I also didn't get that after the Manhunter flew off with Clark, did the JL, Chloe and Lois just walk out of that facility? Or was it implied GA went back and freed the others? A minor nit I know. I also noticed Kara wasn't in the opening credits. Did I miss something with her?

You didn't miss anything. Laura Vanderport was dropped as a regular. She's making a guest appearance later to wrap up Kara's storyline. Not really sure what happened there. Maybe it was because the writers couldn't decide how to writer her character, or maybe it was thought she took to much away from Clark. Either way, she's gone from the regular cast.

Yeah, they glossed over GA and the others getting out, which was too bad. After all that build-up, I would have rather seen that than the Jimmy/Chloe sap-fest.

Too bad. I liked Laura as Kara.

I like the direction they seem to be heading. Clark part of the Justice League, accepting his destiny more, working at the Daily Planet and growing closer to Lois. We'll see if they can keep it up.

I believe that Miss TessMacher (Mercer, whatever) said something to the effect that they have been reassimilated, which seems like they may have been brainwashed and potentially used to her advantage in the future. I imagine this would mean Black Canary and Aquaman at a minimum, and potentially even Chloe and Green Arrow as well.

                          Hm...
I'll try that. Perhpas I'll watch a new episode with your Elseworlds idea and see what's going on. I just hate the whining. Superman doesn't whine.
I have seen some interesting things on the show here and there. Lois being one. And Lex was quite good but I like the idea of moving on to something else. It was getting to be a bit much.

                            OK,
I watched the Season 8 Premiere tonight. Didn't like much about it, most notably John Jones but it had a few good moments. I'll give it another episode or 2.
