    Captain Midnight

Going WAY back to when one of the movie serials great heroes flew into the comic book world, Captain Midnight. Based on the Fawcett run to go along with the Squadron of Justice (though he was not a member). The head is a modified Street from the LJN SWAT line on a standard Mego body.

That looks so cool! How did you make the ..um... head sock? I've been trying to figure out a good way to replicate the look.

Very nicely done colorful and sharp looking and great use of the LJN head.
Did you have any trouble fitting the head on the original mego body? aren’t the LJN neck plugs wider than Mego heads?

Big fan of both the aviator and superhero versions of the good Captain! This is so nicely done! Your cloth hood work is magic. I almost don't want to know how it's done... almost. Extra points for adding the effects on the goggles!

First thing I do with a cowled/masked/socked head is chop off the hair (and sometimes the ears) and resculpt the back of the head bald. Sometimes means painting that part of the head to match the face so the division line twixt Apoxy Sculpt and vinyl doesn’t show through light colored material. The mask is basically a rounded tube sewn up the back and across the top. I cut out the part where the face is showing, leaving a little bit of extra material to fold under and glue in place with some glue stick to make a seam. I often catch the corners with a few tiny stitches to keep material from raveling. It often takes some subsequent re-stitching in places to get it to fit just right (each head can be a little different). I put a little glue along the edge of the mask around the part of the face showing to hold it in place after I slip it onto the head. The mask actually goes down well past the bottom of the head and the neck plug. I overhand the seam under the chin and down the neck past the plug and gather the end together with some stitches to hold it in place. The whole thing then plugs into the neck hole that I’ve widened enough to accommodate it, material and all, so there’s no gap where the neck meets the body. I widen the neck hole with a pair of scissors, shaving the sides by turning them and gradually opening them up as I do. The round earcaps on the sides of the hood are just metal washers covered with the navy material and overhand stitched in place.

Those are actually taken right off the cover of Captain Midnight #46. I was having a really hard time getting the look of the highlights right, so I finally just grabbed a pic off the web and did some quick Photoshopping. Printed the lenses out and glued them on. https://cdn.inprnt.com/thumbs/16/2f/...ax-age=2628000

Yep, put the good Captain in with the Squadron of Justice, as they’re all Fawcett brethren. The whole team is here: http://megomuseum.com/community/show...highlight=taia
