Yeoman Janice Rand From Star Trek: The Original Series

    Hello, Everyone.

I haven't posted too much lately, but I have been zipping in to check the customs in this thread and they are stellar as usual!

I just finished this custom, which has been on my list for quite some time.

I've been trying to add females to the Trek world, especially those with "real hair". I've also been doing my own head sculpts and casting lately and that's helped in my quest.

    1. As a refresher, here's Grace Lee Whitney as Yeoman Janice Rand from ST: TOS:

    2. and 3. Here's Rand, front and back views.

YES...all the hair is "real" and was styled by me. It's by far the most difficult hair style I've done to date, harder even than my Jill Danko custom.

    4. Here is a closeup montage of Rand's head/face/hair.

    5. Rand's head is my fifth sculpt thus far, and my first female sculpt. Here she is beside my other sculpts, in order of completion: David Letterman, Paul Schaffer, Jim Rockford, Capt. Jonathan Archer and Porthos, and Yeoman Rand.

    6. Here's Rand with my other Trek female customs with "real" hair:

    7. Lastly, here's Rand with all of my Star Trek customs to date:

    Thanks for looking!!!

^ Thanks, KW and T2C! I appreciate the feedback.

I'm not nuts about how her hair is photographing; it looks better "in person". Oh, well.

I think you nailed her likeness. A worthy addition to a fine set of ladies. Seriously, I think you do a great job. Enjoyable post. Thanks for sharing.

Wow! I appreciate the kind words, especially from great customizers like yourselves. Thanks SO much!

I also love the back shot. Not many customs get shown from the back as yours looks great either way.
                      T3Toys,

Thanks for that. I wanted her to look "finished" from all sides. The hair in the back isn't really separated; it's the dress closure that sticks out a bit and makes the hair part in the back.

I'm a bit disappointed that her hair in the closeup shots looks a bit strawlike, but it's the limitations of photography, I suppose. It looks much better live and in farther shots. Maybe it's my camera flash? Not sure.

                      THANK YOU EVERYONE!!!!!!!!

                        Dr. K -

As we say in the South..."a whole heck of a lot of work into making that"....and it shows.

Not a Star Trek fan, but I am a custom fan. And she is fantastic!

That hair must've been a real pain in the *** to do, but it looks great
