This is my repainted and customized FTC Riddler. My goal was to figure out how to make the FTC sculpt look like a premium adaptation of tv's original Riddler. First, I saught out and studied many stills of Frank Gorshin. I took screen grabs from the 66 series and Movie, and scanned best images from online. I really wanted to capture his ultimate facial expression, and insane laughter.
I took turnaround pics of the FTC head sculpt, highlighting the parts that look like him, and worked at improving on other details. I found the original sculpt had a face that was a bit too long, so I reshaped his head to be a little shorter & rounder. I studied Gorshin's eyes with and without the mask, painted his eye shape & brows, and adapted additional light violet mask details with highlights & shadows to frame his glare. I changed the positioning of his lip expression, & highlighted his teeth and smile. I changed the lineup of his ears. I had a full first draft, I photographed my work again, compared the draft details to more Gorshin stills, and here are pictures of my second re-paint results.
I adapted a skinnier body with different mego parts, to make his scale look more truly comparable to the Adam West Batman scale. I repainted his lavender gloves & flesh at the wrists, and added a brighter green highlight to his costume. I darkened his black question marks with a fine brush after the new costume base airbush. After much searching, I was so pleased to find the perfect color of purple rubber at the store, and trimmed it to shape overtop the original costume belt. Finally, I used the mocassins, reduced some of the texture at the edges, and color-matched the green to look more like his slippers.
I hope the final work makes you smile.
