    Marvel Team-Up Issue# 144 Two-pack

Bear with me as this custom work has a bit of personal significance that I would like to share with my Mego family. For those viewing this and don't know me very well or don't really care about the backstory of this custom work, I don't fault you for skipping down to the pics, enjoy them. For those that have come to know me, at least a little better than before, and reads on as I share a little bit of myself, I thank you.

During my recent move as I was going through boxes I came across a box of loose Famous Covers figures. And, in the bottom of that box laid a small bundle that was carefully wrapped in tissue paper and bubble wrap. I carefully unwrapped and removed the bubble wrap and then unfolded the tissue paper to reveal a custom Moon Knight figure that I had purchased off of eBay back in the spring of 2011.

How could I have forgotten about this superb specimen of custom Megoey goodness? Well, the spring of 2011 was a brief period of relief and a sign that there would eventually be an end to the trying times that my wife, Cindy, and I had been going through since 2008 and didn't fully come out of until early 2014. It was during the Spring of 2011 that I joined the Mego Museum after seeing all the incredible custom figures made by the talented members of the community. But, the catalyst that ignited the spark for me to, eventually, become a customizer was when I received Moon Knight, I thought it was cooler than Fonzie's jacket and that I would like to try to make something cool like that too. So, I bought a couple of resin heads from Juanimal on eBay and some fabric from JoAnns and dabbled a little by sewing up a bodysuit and a leather trench and painting up one of the heads (I have yet to use that head - but I'm sure I will somewhere down the line).

From then on I had to set the hobby aside and focus on juggling a full time job while attending classes to finish up my network administration degree in the evenings and helping my wife deal with the legalities of filing for disability which stemmed from nerve damage that occurred during a surgery to remove cancerous lymph nodes in 2010.
Plus, we had moved to our current apartment complex in 2013. Sadly, he remained in the box I packed him in...out of sight, out of mind.

So, when I unearthed him a few weeks ago I had to know who I purchased him from and if they were a Museum member. Ebay and PayPal didn't have an archive of my purchases THAT far back so I had to go scroll through my email archives. And, I found it! The PayPal payment was sent to barrettandjen, I instantly exclaimed "Oh my god I think I bought him from Barrett." I PM'd him on Facebook just to confirm and sure as s#!t it was one of his early MKs.

I told him how I unearthed MK and explained the chaos going on at the time I received him as well as it being his work that gave me that nudge to pursue this hobby. He graciously understood, thanked me for the acknowledgement and asked if I would send him a pic of the figure after I got settled in the new apartment. The Sunday before Mego Meet I was able to unpack MK, set him up amongst the customs I was working on for the Meet and snap some pics. I sent them to him through Facebook but, I also wanted to find a way to present this special Moon Knight custom to the community and share its story. So, when I sent him the pics I told him I was planning something special for his Moon Knight but, I would need to get some things from Mego Meet.

I have really been enjoying the process of making two-packs lately and have been wanting to do some Marvel Team-Up and Marvel 2 in 1 two-packs as I really enjoyed those comics as a kid. So, I Googled Marvel Team-Ups and saw the cover for issue #144 and instantly knew that this would be perfect: Barrett's Moon Knight with a symbiote Spider-Man that I make in a two-pack box. All I needed to do was find out if Austin would be bringing the mold for symbiote Spidey's head to the Meet and have Austin print me a suit. And, all went according to plan.

Austin, you have deepest gratitude for helping make this little project of mine come together.

I was very bummed out that I didn't get to meet Barrett in Skokie last weekend, all because I had to pack up early as I had promised the friends that we stayed with for MM '15 that we would drive up to Ingleside, Il and see them Saturday evening. Next year, if those friends want to see us they will just have to come to Skokie because Cindy and I will be devoting the entire trip to our Mego family.

    MOON KNIGHT:

WHOLE FIGURE - Barrett (Batman89), Thank you!

    SYMBIOTE SPIDEY:

HEAD - Austin's cast with my paints.
BODY - CTVT/FTC Black China body.
BODYSUIT - Austin's print, cut and pinned by me, sewn together by Cindy

TWO-PACK BOX - Designed and assembled by me.

Again, for those that hung in there for that entire monologue you have my gratitude, please enjoy the pictures!

    Megoes-4-Life
    John

John, I read your whole post, and I really appreciate what you and your wife went through during that time of your lives. I hope that she is doing much better these days.
I am so sorry that I did not meet you both. I will be kicking myself until next June over it. Thank you for the kind words about my custom. The two pack turned out great, Spider-Man is awesome, and I love the packaging!

I was so excited when you told me that you own my very first MK with that head! I did one before that, with a Leitner suit, and cloth hood.
I always admire your customs, so I was surprised to find out that you bought one from me!
I have sold 10 of them so far, and I'm working on #11, and I save every picture. Back in '11 our computer crashed and I lost some of my pics. All I had of this custom was a tiny pic that I got lucky to find somewhere on the internet.

Thanks so much John for the new pics, and for sharing that story!

I know that is a problem I have with space in the condo and so much goes into boxes without me getting a decent time to enjoy them. I find out I already have something after unpacking and buying it again :/ Hope that things are going better for you and you wife these days. Both customs are great and love the two-pack idea.

I'm sorry, Vinny, I'm not sure I am completely understanding your question but, I will try to answer it as I am interpreting it...

The top picture is of Spidey and MK standing in front of the back of the box, NOT in front of a copy of MTU #144 being propped up by the box. The image on the back of the box is of the actual cover of MTU #144.
