Grant Morrison & Frank Quitely's All-Star Superman is my favorite Superman story ever. I wanted to do a Superman based Quitely's wonderful art. It pretty much just fell together with a great head sculpt from eBay and a very nice Superfriends outfit from CTVT.
A few months ago I had accidentally ordered a extra white cape for the Moon Knight custom that I was working on. I decided to hang on it and tossed it into the parts bin with no idea what I was going to do with it. Then I stumbled across some neat vinyl Superman logos on eBay. One of them was the logo that was on Superman's battle suit when he fought Solaris, the mad star tyrant during the climatic battle of the story. I thought to myself that using that logo might make a neat All-Star Superman variant figure to go with my regular one and put that extra cape to use.
So here you have it, All-Star Superman!

The heads are from eBay with paints by me
Bodies are Zica Type-S
Costumes are from CTVT
"S" logo is from eBay
The battle helmet was made from a CTVT Space 1999 helmet

The heads were painted about a month apart from each other. The only difference is battle suit Superman has a high collar.

Two heads are better than one!

I don't really mind the Superfriends "S", it actually echos the one in the comic book only smaller. I have a much better chest logo that I'd like to use but the heat pressed logo is too close to the seam and I wouldn't be able to place it correctly. I might buy another suit in the future to see if it's any better.

There's a lot of putty & primer on that helmet. The visor was made of thick plastic from a water jug and has a slight blue tint. The cord, à la Mego's POTA astronaut keeps the helmet from getting knocked off his head. The helmet is lined in white felt around the top to protect the resin head from paint rubs.

Superman's battle suit protected him from the earth's red sun in the story. It probably wouldn't protect him from poor sales, he'd be a peg warmer for sure! But I think it makes a nice variant or limited run chase figure next to the regular edition. The chest logo on the battle suit doesn't really match the one in the book but it's very faithful to the animated move.
Now it's time to customize an army of Super-robots or maybe a even a Super-Lois!
