Doctor Stephen Strange, best known under his alias Doctor Strange, was created by artist Steve Ditko. The character first appeared in Strange Tales #110 (July 1963). A former neurosurgeon, Strange serves as the Sorcerer Supreme, the primary protector of Earth against magical and mystical threats. Debuting in the Silver Age of comics, the character has been featured in several eponymous comics series and licensed derivative media including video games, an animated television show, and films.
Stan Lee said about Dr. Strange when pitching the idea, "Well, we have a new character in the works for Strange Tales (just a 5-page filler named Dr. Strange) Steve Ditko is gonna draw him. It has sort of a black magic theme. The first story is nothing great, but perhaps we can make something of him-- 'twas Steve's idea and I figgered we'd give it a chance, although again, we had to rush the first one too much. Little sidelight: Originally decided to call him Mr. Strange, but thought the "Mr." bit too similar to Mr. Fantastic -- now, however, I remember we had a villain called Dr. Strange just recently in one of our mags, hope it won't be too confusing!"
First Appearance

Dr Strange #1

My custom is built on an original Mego Type 2 body with Dr Mego "strange spell" hands; head by "he who shall not be named"; shoes from CTVT; amulet from Castaway Toys; cape, suit, and paints by yours truly.

Facing his greatest foe the dread Dormammu...

Dr. Strange was also a founding member of the Defenders along with Hulk and Sub-Mariner...

soon after other super-heroes joined including Hellcat, Silver Surfer, and Nighthawk...

The very first comic book I ever purchased was Defenders 18 featuring the Defenders vs the Wrecking Crew. Needless to say I was hooked. How can you not love that Sal Buscema art?

Some of the earliest customs I ever made was this version of the Wrecking Crew. Now, here they are once again battling the Defenders as they originally did back in 1975...
Dr Strange vs Wrecker

Hulk vs Bulldozer

Power Man vs Thunderball

Nighthawk vs Piledriver

Group Shot

I hope you enjoy my customs as much as I do, and, as always, thanks for looking!
Peace, Love, and Megos!
Austin
PS On a side note, I am interested in making a modern set of the Wrecking Crew. If anybody has the Bowen bust set below, please contact me. I would like to mold these heads and use them as the base for my customs. I will most certainly show you my appreciation. Thanks!
