    Two Original OOAK Customs

Back in 2011 when I discovered the fantastic website known as Mego Museum I was also a heavy player of the MMO named City of Heroes. After I compiled my initial list of known characters from DC, Marvel, Star Wars, movies, television, etc. I began adding some of my favorite characters that I had created in City of Heroes. The first two on that list were two of my very first characters that I played (on the Champion server, for those that played and remember the game). The company that owned City of Heroes abruptly shut it down in 2012 despite its large fan base but, I took ALOT of screenshots of my characters and the different parts of Paragon City before its final sunset.

Four years later and with the help of the Magnificent Mr. Austin Hough, I have finally completed those first two characters in their Mego form. I am pleased to present Hot Rod and Grim Stranger.

    HOT ROD (brief backstory):

Rick Thibault, a talented chemical engineer, was conducting a final test of a new synthetic fuel he had developed when a saboteur hired by the big oil companies set off an explosion that should have cost Rick his life. Instead, the synthetic fuel bonded to Rick’s cells on the molecular level, giving him the ability to project and manipulate flame. After learning to control his new abilities, he developed a suit that would hold up against the intense heat he generates, adopted the moniker of Hot Rod and started protecting the city’s citizens from both average criminals and super-powered villains alike.

    Hot Rod is compose of:

HEAD - Wildfire sculpt from mr-scary1: modified, molded, cast and painted by me
    BODY - Doc Swivel Bicep
BODY SUIT - Designed by me but printed and brought to life by the Magnificent Austin Hough, sewn together by my wife.
    BOOTS - Doc
    GLOVES - CTVT
BELT - CTVT with my addition of the circular jeweled buckle

The figure is wearing the suit that I originally sketched out for a failed attempt at a self-published comic book I made in 2000, the Flame Pattern in the City of Heroes costume designer only put flames on the arms and legs, not the chest.

    GRIM STRANGER (brief backstory):

Little is publicly known about the entity that people refer to as The Grim Stranger. Eye witness accounts describe that when a situation that the police or average costumed heroes cannot handle unfolds The Grim Stranger just appears out of thin air, dispatches the enemy and disappears as suddenly as it appeared. Reports suggest it is particularly interested in villains and villain groups that employ necromancy, demon summoning and other black magics in their sinister plots. Learned scholars of the arcane hypothesize that it is not from our world but from a different Plane of Existence entirely.

    Grim Stranger is composed of:

HEAD - Next 2 Last Mohican sculpt with my paints
    BODY - Doc Swivel Bicep
BODYSUIT - Custom tailored and sewn by me, the white pattern is white self-adhesive vinyl hand drawn, cut and positioned by me
COAT - This trench coat is the very first custom piece I ever tailored and sewed myself back in 2011
    BOOTS - Doc
    HAT - CTVT

Guilds in City of Heroes were called Super Groups and because there was more than one John in the Super Group I was in, the other members started calling me GrimJohn based on this character.

Great job reproducing the game characters... they look just like their screen captures. Love the backstory to these as well.,, kind of have your own personal superhero origin story in there!
