You read my mind, Hedji; the same question I was going to pose. Something like spray fixative seems like it would be the only way to actually "set" the dry pigments so they don't come off.

Oh yeah, I use dullcote in between. I always use it between coats of paint also, because I apply multiple very thin coats of paint to eliminate brushstrokes. Gloss varnish is the last thing to be applied where needed.
