    Dungeon Playset/Diorama

After I finished Wildfire I got a bit sidetracked as I stumbled on to some videos by Al Figures https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCA3...SBDlNQWhUcehUg and Bob the Odd https://www.youtube.com/user/lunkermouth on how to make dioramas from foam project boards. For those who are familiar with these guys, sorry for the repeat info as I didn't readily see threads regarding this stuff on the MM boards.

Sooo, I thought "hey that looks like something I could do" and I did and I thought I would share the results with everyone here.

For my first diorama endeavor I decided to tackle a dungeon scene and for just under $20 in materials I was able to make this:

The diorama measures 24x12x12 inches which comes out to 18x9x9 Mego scale feet. Using Al Figures' magnet technique the diorama easily breaks down for storage as shown below.

I have started a second diorama that I will post the WIP pics over in Custom Works In Progress.

Excellent work! I would love to work on some dioramas for figures, but space is too tight. Is the stone graphic on printed paper? You've got some excellent texturing going on.

The stone is hand drawn using sample image patterns from Google, I then traced over the line work with the tip of an Exacto knife, then I took a blunt sculpting tool to really define the lines between the stones. The texturing was achieved by first taking different textured rocks from around my apartment complex and my workplace and pressing them into the foam board, then I dry brushed the different shades of gray over the black base coat.

Space is an issue for me as well, broken down the dio is only 3.5" tall which makes storing it a bit easier.

Wow, those are some great techniques. Excellent texture and dimension.

Nicely done. These are the playsets that are really cool, work with so many different figures. I would like to make a suggestion. I don't know if you have Michaels or Hobby Lobby there, but they like to put out a lot of 40% off single item coupons, which if used with a little imagination can save you some money on materials.

Yes, I have a Hobby Lobby, Michael's and JoAnn's within a one mile radius of each other and only four miles from me. I am also fully aware of their 40% coupons and utilize them quite frequently but, that is an excellent suggestion for someone reading this thread and isn't aware of them.

However, for this particular diorama the only component that I picked up from Hobby Lobby was the package of 50 3/4" diameter ceramic magnets for $7.99 minus the 40% took them down to $4.80 -ish. The foam project boards are from Home Depot, $5.48 each, the "metal" strapping on the door is cut from foam plates I picked up from Dollar Tree for $1.

So, added all up this dio cost me $18.82 (incl. sales tax) in materials. But, because of the leftover section of board my next dio has only cost the $5.48 for an additional foam project board. I only use 12 magnets per dio so, I have enough to build two more dios after I finish the current one I am working on.
