Yvonne Craig was my first celebrity crush when I was just a little guy and seeing how FTC is taking SOOOO long to get theirs done, I decided to make my own.
I began planning my 66 Batgirl back in September, my original goal was to finish her just before Christmas but, like my Heath Ledger Joker, she had to be put on the backburner. I consider her my first full-fledged female custom as I modified the resin head sculpt to accept her hair and I custom tailored her bodysuit, cape and gauntlets.
The fabric for her bodysuit was inspired by Boss’ Aquaman that he made in 2014 where he used JoAnn’s Mystique swim/dance material. My local JoAnn’s carried the Eggplant color and upon seeing it in person I knew it would be perfect for Batgirl. Built on the Yvonne body, I had to sew the suit onto the body to get it to accentuate Yvonne’s curves properly. Her chest emblem is from Paul Wasson/LaserMego (Thanks Paul!)
The cape was made with two costume satins, gold and violet. I used the violet satin to make her gauntlets. The gauntlets proved to be a chore as the satin wasn’t very forgiving and I just could not get the three fins to stay three fins while I sewed them on which is why they appear fringy.
The belt is my nod to the original Mego Batgirl as I did not have the resources to fabricate a more show accurate belt.
I picked the head up from Wade Wilson on eBay last fall and using Magic Sculpt, I extended the back of her cowl a little bit to allow me to Super Glue her hair extensions in that were graciously donated by a Glenda head I had.
So in summary:
Head: Bought from Wade Wilson on eBay with my paints and modifications to take hair.
Body: Yvonne with feet removed for boots, hands painted purple by me.
Bodysuit, Gauntlets & Cape: Hand tailored and sewn by me
Belt & Boots: Doc Mego
Chest Emblem: LaserMego
Box: Designed by magyar1964, assembled by me
My thanks to everyone who stops by and gives her a look.
Enjoy!
John
