Hotshot! -- Enemy of Spider-Man, Hostess Twinkie Lover.

    Viva la Villaincia Obscuria!

    From http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.ph...ciousFruitPies

Back in the 1970s and 1980s, Hostess™ had a long-running comic book advertising campaign, with story pages produced by the comic book companies themselves. They appeared in comic books published by Marvel, DC, Gold Key, Archie, and Harvey. The Marvel and DC ads, featuring prominent superhero characters, would normally have plots along the lines of:

1.) The villain comes in, and starts ruining everyone's fun. The villain is typically a ridiculously themed one created specifically for that ad. (But a few of them feature mainstream ones, like The Joker.)
    2.) The hero pops up.
3.) The hero gives the villain delicious Hostess Fruit Pies/Ding-Dongs/Twinkies in exchange for being turned in, or to distract the villain long enough to be captured.
4.) The villain complies, not being able to resist the real fruit filling.
    5.) (optional) Everybody Laughs Ending

So I stumbled upon a Hostess/Marvel ad reading an issue of the Avengers from the late 1970s. It starred the Amazing Spider-Man along with a foe created just for the ad named Hotshot (a poor man's version of Pyro it seemed.) To make a long story short, I just had to make a custom of him.

As the resident "King of Obscure Villain Customs" what could be more obscure than a villain who appeared on only one page of a comic book (and only in an advertisement no less)? Could there be any more obscure of a villain? I think not.

    Here is the original advertisement:

    and close-ups of Hotshot:

Hotshot is built on an original Mego Type 2 body; red hands from CTVT; suit by yours truly; head is a modified Bullseye head from a Bowen bust; and the flame was designed and produced by lasermego.com. This custom could not have been made without it. It is the proverbial "cherry on top of the sundae".

here he is fighting Mego Spider-Man...

In addition, special packaging had to be made to compliment such a special character. So I enlisted the help of the Toyroom and the "Hostess Action Figure Box" was born...

Make sure you check out this link that documents all (or almost all) of the DC/Marvel Hostess ads from the 1970s: http://www.seanbaby.com/hostess.htm

This is one of the "funnest" customs I have had the pleasure of being a part of. Extra special thanks to Paul aka pmwasson aka lasermego and Anthony aka the Toyroom for their amazing contributions. I could not have done this without you.

I hope you enjoy my customs as much as I do, and, as always, thanks for looking!

    Peace, Love, and Hostess Twinkies!

Very creative and well done. Funny enough Spidey probably had the biggest rogues gallery not in the regular comics but the hostess ads as well. I remember at least June Jitsu and Legal Eagle in addition in Hotshot.

            So...er, "cool"!

You should see the weird version of Aunt Minerva that Hostess did with Shazam!
WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.

That's fantastic! I love those old Hostess ads, (I have quite a few old comic books w/ those too!), and I've had the seanbaby site bookmarked for quite a while. This was a great idea, and your figure turned out great!

That is just brilliant! Looks like a promotional product you'd see in a grocery store.

Crazy combo toy/junk food box! Holy hot fun right there!

There's a long retired Hostess-Ex-Exec out there smacking his forehead, lamenting the loss of his Einstein moment in the world of bleach and sugar.

neat, Austin. Even though he's a Hostess villain, he'd fit right in with the rest of the 70s comic villains in Spider-Man.

Every comic book that featured one of those ads was required reading for me as a kid and an adult. I thought it was genius marketing. Great effort and execution gents. Great custom idea Austin. Hotshot should have been used in the Amazing friends cartoons. Maybe Marvel/Disney/Sony will see fit to make a hostess villains movie with a certain web slinger. Or Web Swinger as it was mentioned in the ad.
I post in thy general direction!
