Spider-Man as played by Nicholas Hammond in The Amazing Spider-Man (TV series-1977)

The Amazing Spider-Man is the first live-action TV series based on the popular comic book The Amazing Spider-Man, not counting Spider-Man's appearances on the educational The Electric Company series, and was shown in the USA between 1977-1979. It consisted of 13 episodes, which included a pilot movie in the fall of 1977. None of the episodes are available on DVD, but almost all of them have been released on VHS. Despite being set in New York City, the series was mostly filmed in Los Angeles.

This version of Spider-man has been on my to-do list for years. To say that my dear friend Matt Jaycox motivated me to complete this custom is an understatement. I would say he more or less challenged me to complete this custom. With his constant (but always lighthearted) pestering this custom was never too far from the front of my mind.

When Diamond Select released their Spider-Man retro figure pack almost all of the pieces were in place. The boots, web-shooter, and belt were exactly what was needed. I was able to design and print a suit resembling the one from the TV show as well. The only thing left that really defines this version of Spidey were his eyes. How were we going to tackle those beautifully shiny eyes.

Enter Lasermego.com (pmwasson)! Paul was able to make the eyes as close to the show version as possible AND make them overlay the eyes on new DST Spider-man head. Finally, it all came together!

Presenting, for the first time in public, my custom Nicholas Hammond Spider-Man:

    images from the series:

I am unsure if there were any costumed villains on the show so I posed him with the Fly Twins and Doc Ock. If Somebody wants to suggest a villain from the show for me to make, please let me know. I'd love to add one to his Rogues Gallery.

I hope you enjoy my customs as much as I do, and, as always, thanks for looking!

    Peace, Love, and Megos!

So cool to see all those Spider-Men in one place! Nice job on the NH custom, too. On a side note, I never realized how closely the TV mask tried to mimic Ditko's original take on Spidey with the abundance of web-lines...
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

              That's just awesome Austin!

Just a suggestion...he's absolutely fine as-is, but if you want to make him even more accurate you could update the belt. The original is a dark red leather with the cartridges attached to it and the buckle is actually a little Spider-Man face. You could cut up the belt you have now and glue the cartridges onto a strip of pleather...making the buckle shouldn't be too hard.

That is FABULOUS !!!! I love the dotted eyes!!! There were, if you're wondering, actually two masks used on the series-- one used mirrored lenses, like the figure I showed you; and the solid one with dots like a screen door... I thought this version would be too hard to do, which is why I suggested the other kind. But this looks great! I love that belt and web shooter and costume. The web pattern is terrific... As already pointed out, webbing is very Ditkoesque.

It is so great to see this finally done.

I have only one thing to add:
