    Customized FTC Mego Alfred the Butler, Batman Family

    A lean 8” Alfred Pennyworth action figure

    Recipe:

    Acetone-shrunken FTC head (1 hour soak, 2-3 days dry; re-soak on & off for 2 weeks); head’s centre re-aligned for more symmetry (eyes, nose; left ear brought forward); highlight The Farrow’s original facial features and hairline sculpt; finer Megoesque eyes and moustache paint; lengthen neck so collar and bowtie do not choke his chin (Sculpey III hardened in boiling water, attached with ShoeGoo and Krazy Glue)…I plan to use this recipe to adapt a teen-scaled ’66 Robin head…

    Teen-scaled pelvis and Teen-scaled torso: Torso Dremeled for wider neck plug; torso lengthened at midriff with Sculpey III, and sealed with applications of Krazy Glue;

    FTC KISS arms, legs, and inner elastics (my KISS action figure appears to be a skinny 12”-scale male body reduced to 8”-scale)

    FTC Alfred clothes, adapted for tighter fit on leaner body; pant legs cuffed;

    Generic dollhouse accessories (Gotham Gazette newspaper and silver-polished service tea set)

    Alongside complementing Bruce Wayne and his Batman cape, removable cowl and costume details

    This is the recipe I have been working on for leaner, stream-lined male physiques (i.e., Scarecrow, Sinestro). Alfred’s figure originally debuted as a Neal Adams’ Joker. My purple Dyna-Mite outfit is the same material as an original Mego Joker jacket, so it will next become a skinny, Seventies full-length Joker blazer (re: Batman 251). I Dremeled an FTC’s Joker neck down to minimal pencil-thin integrity. I am adapting a teen’s neck and arm holes so his head will jut more forward, and his arms could comfortably cross from the shoulders to rest his hands on his cane. I have also been referencing some Filmation Joker cells, where too, he is skinny like Alan Davis artwork. I am tinkering with building some lean arm muscle between female Mego arms and teen ones. The design is still in rudimentary process and teaching me good patience toward completion. Hope the customize Alfred and some of these ideas bring you a few smiles.

    That is fantastic!! I would have had to buy Alfred if the FTC figure looked like that. It really shows how far a proper head goes to making a great figure.

    I'm just curious: did you have to fix the symmetry on the head because the acetone warped it or was the original crooked? I only have the Kiss sculpts by Farrow and they are crooked as can be. I thought it was the shrinking process FTC is using that warped them, but now I'm not so sure.
    Expectation is the death of discovery.

              I don't know what truly causes the asymmetry, but both of my Alfred's heads were alike; I looked back at the posted FTC prototype pic and IMO, the nose looked misaligned and the eyes were 'off'. I studied and studied the sculpt, and decided to change the angle of the base of the neck to line up his nose, re-trim his right eye to balance it with the left eye (adding some more clay to shape the eyelid), and remove his left ear to bring it forward. Now with a longer neck, I gave him an Adam's apple too. The slow process of the acetone baths did not warp it: It came out as a perfect shrink. I *love* The Farrow's work: The shrinking process brings out a richer mocha in the head medium; and deeper indents in the facial/forehead features and creases, and the sparse hair lines all around the top of his head. I painted the black hair by tracing out the original sculpted hair lines and truly show The Farrow's work. I like to think Alfred's face tells a story of years of Bruce being 'such a worry'.

                      If you make a copy of the head I'd be interested in one. Excellent work.
                      If a Mego figure of God did not exist, it would be necessary for EMCE to invent him.
