Custom of the Week - 9/22/2014 - Grooooott

This week the spotlight falls on Legend of Link's fantastic rendition of Groot and his little pal Rocket. Using a Mattel body as a base, Groot's details have been painstakingly sculpted over top while preserving articulation. A great paint wash gives the "limbs" depth, and Rocket is a neat figure in his own right.

See the original thread including in-progress pics here:

Hello everyone, It's nice to be back after a nice little break. After sculpting a piece for another figure, which you'll see shortly ;), I got some inspiration to make Groot. I spent ALL day yesterday and some of the morning today working on him. Needless to say, I went through a lot of clay. He's on a John Stewart Mattel

very nice! I showed my daughter the original post and got her to use her budding sculpting skilz to make a baby Groot head. However, she is sculpting in dollhouse 1-1 scale and the baby Groot was for a toy for the dolls, so the scale is more like 1:48.

What an honor. Thanks all. He was a lot of fun to make and definitely took some time. Now I gotta make the Old Man one...
