finsihed samurai.jpg My custom super friends Samurai is ready to be carded. He started life as a retro Green Arrow. The head I think was from Austin, painted by me. This was my first ever attempt at painting a custom. It is far from perfect but I am happy with the results and will get better as time goes on. The boots are also from Green Arrow. The suit came from Austin . Samurai swords are some painted cocktail spears. This one reminds me so much of Saturday mornings back in the 1970's. I plan on doing more super friends in the future.

Cocktail swords as a Mego accessory??? Reading that I was transported back to the '70s! And there was the two prong French fry forks the drive in burger stands had, those made good weapons too.
Thanks for bringing back those forgotten memories.
Your Samurai looks great, and nice head paints. Maybe just the lighting but paint looks a bit glossy. May I suggest I couple light spritzes of Testors dullcoat to kill the sheen? Just my two cents, rounded up to a nickel!
Seriously, nice work!

Head paint ended up glossy because I had to add a few coats. I made the mistake of doing the flesh color first. When I painted the hair, the black paint ran into the face. I had to add several layers of flesh color to hide the black. I guess thats part of learning. The eyes, moustache and eye brows were drawn on with a skinny permanent marker. The lips with a red marker. My next paint job will be much better I hope. This was a fun custom to make.Comment

No mistake doing the flesh color first-you should always start with the light colors & then add the dark ones.
But this isn't the proper forum to be talking about this-pm me if you'd like some advice or tips. I'm no artist by any means, but I have been painting models for 30+ years, and still hate painting eyes!
Get yourself a rattle can of Dullcoat-certainly there's a hobby shop in TB that carries it-if not, order from Winnipeg or Toronto.
IMHO you have the skills, but not necessarily the proper materials.
My 5 cents.
