Finished my first full reroot, I hope I don't ever want to do another but if I do at least I know I can do it. Also a neck plug adapter to put a regular head on a body that only has a neck hole.
That is a great re-root. I have done several and have only had one where I was really happy with the part. This one looks very clean. Any words of wisdom? THanks for sharing!
Thanks everyone. This head is destined for a Black Cat custom I'm going to make. The neck plug was an idea from megoknight, he want's to use a Fembot body for a custom but it has a neck hole.
Patience is the key word for doing a reroot. The hair I got from Jo Ann Fabric, it's doll hair and the label is Darice Craft Designer. It's all curled up in the package and I didn't do any styling, it just turned out that way. The head was one of the new CTVT heads and it has a LOT of hair coverage, I think more then a Doc Blonde head. As for words of wisdom - the melted hair stays hot for a few seconds so be careful about burning yourself, learned from experience. Don't rush yourself, when I started I only did a few plugs at a time but as I got used to the process I did more each time. It took about 3 week from start to finish but there were days that I didn't do anything on it. Leave yourself a long enough length with each plug so you can pick you length after you're done, I probably cut off a good inch or more from the length shown. Depending on the head you use don't feel you need to plug every hole you see, play it by ear and how things are looking. It was interesting to realize that by the end the inside of the head was very full of the melted bits and it was harder to thread the last few plugs. Also I used 2 needles, a straight one and a curved one - curved for the holes that are more on the sides and back. As to the part, the CTVT head has 2 rows down the center of the head for the part.
The amount of hair I used was this - I pulled out a loop ( that makes 2 "lines" of hair ) and feed it through the needle, that made 4 "lines" of hair that I used for each plug. Some if the fine holes that were very close closed up with that much hair so I skipped a few hole if necessary.
Looks perfect. You'll have to redesign a new Black Cat head where she's missing her front tooth that Spiderman (Otto) just knocked out of her mouth in Superior Spiderman.
