Vacuum Formed Mego Scale Joker Bank Heist Mask

    Hey guys, here's something new.

Removable Robin Masks? I got a Removable Joker mask

It's was sooooo much fun to do and the end result was more then satisfying.
    Lets go:

First I sculpted a Joker Mask via my iPad then 3D printed it out.

After printing the head, I printed out a small scale Vacuum Form Table.

Once everything was ready, we made a plastic shell of the head then proceeded to cut it out.

Then, you slap some paint on it and you have yourself a mask.

Hope you guys enjoyed, and thanks for looking.
    -Sean

Now that is cool! love it sean!!! a question on the lines this printer creates. could you increase the size of the print by say 3% and then sand to a smooth finish? just wondering, it could make a world of difference.

It's an idea but its just the quality of the print, right now, we're printing in medium quality but the high quality is just too difficult to achieve due to leveling( Atleast for us beginners)

The ridges that are created luckily didn't show up in the mask after the vacuum forming, but I've been using 3m spot filler and sanding to get rid of them. It's certainly a learning process

I love that you showed it step by step
seems like you are getting better at it.

keep it up! I agree on the lines, it is a shame that it does not print out smoothe.
If you can get that worked out you would really be set

What a great idea! There are lots of possibilities with this technique.

That is neat. It would be cool for other characters with masks like that. Phantom of the Opera, for instance.

                            The lines are our limitation.
I cannot begin to count the hours I have spent calibrating this printer with Sean to get high res prints.
Currently, the printer is calibrated to basically it's default printing thickness, which gives us those little ridges...sometimes not too bad and you can't even feel them with a fingernail...other times when you rub a fingernail over the ridges they sound like a washboard lol.
On this joker mask, I was amazed how the ridges were captured by the thermal material...but, only on the inside of the mask. The outside of the mask turned out nice and smooth...the paint makes it look rough.
To print in half of the current filament thickness, you have to watch it print a leveling master...and boy, I have good eyes..but it's something like half a millimeter thick.....I have gotten it close to working, but print jobs tend to fail because eventually, the nozzle is simply just too close to the printed object and the nozzle clogs.
What a booger....but give this technology another five years....and the machine will probably do all the work....no more turning the tuner knob to get the tv station to come in clear....haha.
I really am amazed at what Sean can do in that 3d app. I bet he had half a day in doing this joker head on the iPad.
I give little critiques here and there, but he's the one going all out on the printer, I just have to stay one step ahead of him on the technical side of the machine because I understand it better than he does.
The vac table came from thingiverse.com which is a totally free community of downloadable files to print.
I bet we have a day just printing the table parts.
The thermal material is what I found to make bubbles/blisters for backer cards....course, I have yet to finish that project, but it is on the horizon.
One thing I told Sean we should do, is get some colored material for these kinds of projects. That way, painting will be at a minimum.
Not to tangent the thread, but I have really been encouraging him to look into making armor...sculpt up on a Mego torso and vac form the stuff....gene Simmons destroyer armor would be awesome.
