Once I recieved the FC Doom head from Gary, I realized that this was not going to be a quick switch. Keep in mind that I've never owned the complete FC Dr. Doom. FC Doom's neck was too short and concaved inside with a little hole at the top. I assume that this head sat on the rest of the neck and allowed the head to turn, tip up and down and side to side. Other than the head's neck being too short, sitting the head on a flat surface, I noticed that the angle was too high. Doom's chin stuck out further than his nose, and gave the head an upward look. Couple of things I don't like in figure heads, extreme expressions (few exceptions) and heads that look upwards instead of forward.
At this point, I approached it as I do my original head sculpts, by attaching it to a kabob stick. After filling the head with magic sculpt and allowing it to dry on the stick, I sculpted the rest of the neck. From there the head are cut off the stick and sanded to the level and angle I like. Once this is complete, I sculpt and tool (with lots of test fitting) the plug, again with magic sculpt.

Nice job!! I love the nostalgic flavor of your custom. I think Mego may have very much moved in this direction. Great work!

Beautiful job! He looks so much better with a fabric hood than a molded one. Glad to see you went the extra mile on this one.

Nicely Done!!! I know what you mean about the cost. Sitting in my "to do" box are the same items you used (except the buttons and the chain). Great figure.

What Brian said, a commision to make that would be at least that much if not more. He looks great, I prefer the fabric hood to sculpted personally.

That is a sharp DR Doom.

You'd pay at least that to have one made and it wouldn't mean as much as that Doom probably does to you.

Not sure how you converted the head to fit a Mego body but I've used wooden dowls before. One end in the head and the other in the body and it will still turn.

Now on the the next one.

No one can make just one....

started a topic Famous Covers head for a Mego Dr. Doom

Famous Covers head for a Mego Dr. Doom

Half the fun, is making it yourself. The other half is the $65 it took to purchase all the pieces. That's not considering shipping costs and or the time and effort in scuplting the neck and plug.
Oh yeah, PNGwynne, it is expensive, and time consuming.
    Dr. Doom Custom Recipe:
Toy Biz: Famous Covers Dr. Doom head.
DrMego: standard 1/9th male body, geen tunic, green hooded cape, knight boots and gloves.
CTVT: Black Knight shoulder armor, bodysuit and a brown buckle belt.
    Joann Fabrics: gold buttons.
Rite-Aid vending machine: gold chain links.
I would like to thank you wonderful members here, who guided me through this project. I learned that if and when I sculpt my Doom head, I'm sculpting the %$&*@# hood on it!
