Custom of the Week - 8/20/2012

This week we have a little old school World's Finest vibe going on with Warlock664's Superman/Batman combo. These look like a factory offering:

See the original thread here, along with more of Warlock664's customs:

I'll admit it, I'm an Earth-2 junkie! The very first DC Comic I ever browsed was my older brother's copy of JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #91 - which just happened to be part 1 of 1971's installment of the annual JLA/JSA teamup! I was captivated by the duplicate heroes of 2 earths - 2 Flashes, 2 Green Lanterns, 2 Atoms that looked

DC Direct will be thrilled that someone actually OPENED some of their 13 inch figures!
I remember meeting with someone from DC Direct at Toy Fair one year about why they
were not able to make DC Superhero megos. He showed me one of the 13 inch figures
naked and said "I thought SOMEBODY should see the work we put into these!"

Thanks as always for the kind words! I can't really take a lot credit for these two, as they're really more bash than custom ; but they were necessary Earth-2 versions of the characters to add to my growing Justice Society of America roster. The Batman is an amalgam of the two DCD versions, Classic and Modern, using the Modern version head re-painted and suit with the classic boots, gloves, cape and belt. The Superman is from the Superman/Clark Kent 2-in-1 with a custom-made golden age "S" shield, repainted head, and a few minor costume modifications. All in all, they were pretty painless to produce (as compared to the two characters I'm currently working on - over a month of work thus far, stay tuned!).

Nice bashes Warlock. Amazing what a little paint and just swapping a logo can do.

Did you run crying in fear when you saw the naked version? Most 1:6 collectors did.
DCD really dropped the ball on the whole series. They sold it as 1:6 figures but I don't think any were actually 12" [maybe Robin, but that puts him out of scale as well] The early releases all had terrible, unsightly cut joints that prohibited fluid articulation and prevented a lot of posing possibilities. A real shame. Had they actually properly researched they could have punched a mega hole in the 1:6 market for themselves.
                              Bugler, sound the advance.
