Planet of the Apes Gorilla Admiral

Just finished this guy the other day. I figured that Urko has to have someone to answer to, right? Custom head (including war wound under his right eye), Glyph boots, and real leather vest/chest plate. The plate on the chest piece is from the Hasbro 12" line dyed red to match. Not sure if he needs an accesory or not. Maybe a cane? Thoughts? 003.jpghttp://megomuseum.com/mmgallery/files/5/4/2/1/003.jpg

You guys gave me some great ideas on additions to the uniform and I decided to go with epaulettes and a little creative use of leather straps to hold them in place. What do you think?

Thanks. I discovered that old purses from the Goodwill are great sources for some pretty cool leathers.

awesome execution, but I agree that he does need something to distinquish himself as military. Belt w/sword or something like that . . maybe a helmet or some military looking medals?

Have you ever considered doing a baboon figure? It always bothered me that there were no baboon characters in the POTA universe. I always pictured them as being pirates/outlaws/highwaymen/bandits, living on the outermost fringe of ape society.

I get what you're aiming for, but baboons are monkeys, not apes. POTA species were limited to the Great Apes.

Great custom, BTW--I love your stuff. I do agree that a military touch might be a nice addition.

maybe a staff or cane with a human skull for a knob? Great job on the leatherwork.

Also, old thin women's gloves and thin leather skirts and jackets work well, if you can find some in the right color.

I realize baboons are monkeys, but why should that matter? This is fantasy. Why not expand the POTA universe to make it a bit more colorful and interesting? Baboons could live in nomadic tribes on the outermost fringe of ape society. Apes look down on them, viewing them as just a notch above humans on the evolutionary scale. Baboons don't abide by ape law. They're lawless, pirates and bandits. The OP has a great flair for making POTA customs that expand beyond the traditional. I think it could be a fun idea to explore.

So with the epaulettes applied, I am now considering painting the braids on them to make them stand out from the base. Red? Silver? Hmmm...Thoughts? Not sure how ornate is too ornate.
