Yongary: monster from the deep (1967)

Some of you may know that any customs I have made or had made are usually not Mego, but I like to share them with you anyway since I know on these boards things like this are appreciated.

Yongary was a 1967 giant monster film from South Korea. The film is a take off to Godzilla (or Gamera) with a giant menacing dinosaur like monster destroying a city. The film has a rather large cult following. You can also see where the actual (and rather detailed) suit design clearly inspired by Godzilla as well as Gamera (for the two large teeth in the back) played a role in his looks

The sad part about this is that virtually NOTHING was ever made to represent this cool looking character. I see a ton of 1/6, 1/9 scale customs but I never really see any sort of custom made Godzilla type figures (garage kits being excluded). I had then stumbled across Heroes Club (Art of Toys) out of San Francisco. I commission them to create for me a Bandai type scale version for Yongary. He came out rather close and they had some liberty with artistic license in creating him.

So yes a custom that I paid someone else to make for me, hope you enjoy. My short video for him is below

That brings back many fond Saturday afternoon Creature Feature memories… Being a custom, I can totally understand any creative license needed to build the figure. I'm glad you posted the build video. That video really sheds some light on the custom mystery to a novice like me. Any way you slice it, Yongary really came out great. Now you need an X from Outer Space for him to battle! I'll be checking into Heroes Club / Art of Toys…

Thanks for the comments. I already have an idea for who I want them to make next year. I mention next year because if it was not for part of my tax refund I could not afford to get Yongary done

I've always wished that a ligit yongary. I actually bought the spacegiants Kaiju Stopgon thinking it was him. It's okay that it wasn't, but I still wish a bullmark style one existed.

actually if you really look at them side by side Stopgon would be like the bare budget version of Yongary. In fact they are close enough perhaps it is possible they wanted to use the Yongary suit but were unable to strike a deal
