MOVIE MONSTER SERIES completion and revamp (BIG PICTURES) years in the making

The movie monster series goes back to 2003 when I did a custom Frankenstein and wanted to give him a home. I eventually wanted to do all the main monsters so I did my best take on the Gray Morrow-esque art I loved so much on the Mad Monster series, only for the Universal movie Monsters.

So I made the box for Frankenstein and had provisions for art on the rest of the main monsters (used them for the cameos).

And over the years and computer changeovers and a meager increase in talent 2-3 years ago I did a custom of Dracula. I could no longer find the original art elements I did for Dracula so I made a new version.

And that was it with the Movie Monster boxes. Until I had someone wanting to get the big 4. I told him that only Frankenstein and Dracula where actually made and some of the old art is missing so I had to finish the series and some of the art would be different from the pictures he had seen before.

So, I worked on the other characters and also decided to revamp Frankenstein and Dracula as well as aspects of the front art (moving the moon from the right side to the top under the character name).

Anyway, all 6 of the boxes are now almost ready for printing (I have to go through them for touch ups) and all the art is more evocative of the Gray Morrow Mad Monster art that I always wanted it to be.

    Beautiful! Just great!

I can attest that this has definitely been years in the making and I have seen all the prior incarnations.

I am flattered to see that the Phantom of the opera lettering I created still graces your box, Mike.

    Best,

    Matt
Warm up?! We may as well sit around this cigarette!

Wow, it's been so long I had forgotten it came from you. But I do remember that deep down under the layering on the Creature picture is your Creature painting serving as some of the background. Your painting was great but I needed a more movie specific Creature

Superlative work, the quality of talent on this board is overwhelming. By the way, where does one print boxes like this, at Kinko's or some sort of regular printing place?

I have my a large format printer that's becoming more of a pain to maintain as it gets older but it still does great work.

WOW Mike! Those are really great! I really love those backdrops inside the boxes. I hope no one would really cut the trading cards in the back, or they wouldn't have those great backdrops! And I love the Phantom! I have this Sounds Of Terror record from the 70s, and I've always imagined the Phantom screaming "I will always have your beauty for my own!" to look just like the one on your box!
"Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."

                    Whoa! Those are amazing!
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

No way-- really? Now that's something I had forgotten. My painting was for a generic sea creature, done in the Gray Morrow style. I have dig out that old painting again. See what happened to it.

Wow, Mike. What has happened to the years? You were there, way back when. When we both first started making monster customs.

                      Some things never change, eh?

                      Best wishes, my friend.

P.S. I think I may have that old Dracula art of yours. Let me look, okay?

The backdrops are the inserts, separate from the back of the box so they would be fine.

Glad you like them, it makes me think I was a bit successful in establishing the 1970's monster toy vibe on these.

Except you have made so many more customs than I ever will

                          Take care Matt
