Never understood why the insignia on the classic casual uniform was just dropped near the waist like that. I mean in the classic series every ship or base had its own insignia. And the arrow head represented Enterprise Always seemed disrespectful to me.

One nitpick: the part where the "wrap around strappy thing" doesnt quite look right. Maybe the transition too soon? Can't quite put my finger on it...

Also, does it actually open and close, or is sewn closed?

Don't want to make this sound negative though. I think Kirk looks fantastic in his belly shirt, and am really happy to see these for sale.

I think I know what you're saying. This is one of the enhancements I need to work on.
The shirt I posted is my proto
If you look at this bad pic, you see where the gold stripe ends.
Also real hard to see, but there is a seam there.

There is no snap. The front "flaps" open. One tiny spot is sewn. That is the very end of the strap. I tried for an opening closure there, but everything I tried made it stick out. I wanted it flush as possible.
I may have to include installation instructions!
But no, its not hard to put on!
