    Custom head sculpt question

    Because I'm kinda new here, I'd like to get some advice from some of the senior members here regarding the pricing of custom heads;

    I'm sure as most of you know, I became a member in here earlier this month (after being a member years ago and lurking since then when I could) and one of the things I'd like to try and contribute, is to finally get around to molding and casting the 50 or so custom heads I've sculpted throughout the years, and make them available to everyone in the forum.

    The first two, being the Superman and Batman, respectively were very well received and I got a TON of PM's asking about the price, etc. I mentioned in an earlier thread, that the prices of these heads would range from 15-25 dollars, depending on the size, amount of silicone needed to make proper molds and the difficulty of casting the pieces. I'd say about 2/3rds of you who made inquiries, actually ordered the heads, which is still awesome, but simply because my presence here is much more about making money, in an effort to make these heads more available to everyone, I'd just like to know why some didn't order them.

    Several of you made comments about the absence of a neck plug. (Thank You) That has since been corrected. I have already re-molded supes with a neck plug, and plan on doing the same to Bats, next week. All pieces I will be offering from this point, WILL have a neck plug.

    The only other thing I can think of, is that perhaps some of you felt they were a bit too expensive. I personally don't think what I'm asking for them is out of line, especially given my background in both the film and toy industries, but I do want some input and feedback. I'm also trying to give away DVD's, decals, promo cards, and other goodies with as many orders as possible, simply as a pay it forward kind of thing, because i really do get so much out of this forum. It also helps promote my films, etc... Like I said, the purpose of this for me, is to share my work and something I really enjoy, with all of you. Making some pocket money isn't that bad either, if there's anything some of the more senior or active members can share about how to make my work more "accessible", by all means, let me know.

    Thanks!

    IMO 15-25 seems on the high end...."background in film and toy industries" and freebies aside....Most Mego scale heads, regardless of the source, go from $5 to $15 tops, with $10 usually being the standard rate. $15 would be for something complex like a Hawkman.

        I think 25 for a custom hand sculpt isn't too bad really considering the work that goes into it and time. I know I'm not missing out on a dead end batman head. Ordering mine today. 10 to 15 for a regular head shrink seems fair but theres also a lot of work involved in that as well. Me personaly I like stuff that is unique and this qaulifies for sure. Keep up the good work Sandy

        ps: keep in mind Sandy has to shrink these and remold them with neck plugs so there is some extra work involved in bringing these to the figures.

          True, most people charge around $10-$15 for a resin head, but a lot of those are shrinks and not unique sculpts. Given the fact that these are indeed unique sculpts I don't think $15-$25 is all that high. You want quality, you pay for it.

              Considering the time and effort and artistic ability, I have seen 1:6 scale sculpts go unpainted for $55. Mego scale sculpts are more difficult and should cost more but they don't.

                  10 to 15 bucks is my breaking point. I won't go any higher unless its something really unique or really big.

                    The price seems fair to me. I've paid more having custom reroots done on some of my girl heads, so 15-25 is fairly cheap.

                      Great feedback. I also wanted to make it clear that all my heads will be available at any time. The molds aren't going anywhere, so to all who sent the PM's I've been getting about "missing" a particular head, DON'T WORRY.

                        $10 is pretty much standard, less if its just a recast. $20 is probably the breaking point for most custom collectors. $30 and above, it probably better come painted and ready to roll. Just my opinion.

                          I would pay $15-$25 for a really unique head with an awesome sculpt, but it would have to be very special. The nice thing about sculpted heads, cast in resin, is that once you have the mold, you can pretty much keep making more. It should keep costs down a little, unless someone is commissioning a whole new sculpt. With reroots, you can't just reproduce another one from a master. You do the same amount of work each time.
                          So since we're talking about selling heads, what is a fair price for reroots? I've done them for several customers, and I don't think I'd do them for less than $25 unless I could come up with a way to do it faster. That's quite a bit of work involved. Also, you have to figure in the price of the head you're using.
