This one took a while! After a couple of different cowls, and a sculpted mask and helmet, I found a lion that was to scale, cut the head off, dremeled it out and made a mask. A little(ok a lot!) paint, and it looks not bad.
I figured Cat-Man should look a little more ferocious, and a lot less like an orange tabby cat!! He's still Tom Blake under the mask, but I've added elements from similar villians (mainly the King of Cats, Big Game Hunter, and Captain Ben).
As the story goes:
Tom Blake, a world renowned adventurer, thrill seeker, and most famously,trapper of wild jungle cats (as per the Batman Encyclopedia
) has become bored with his work. He feels he has run out of challenges, that is until he hears of a legend of a Cat King in the wilds of Africa. This King of Cats () is supposedly a man sized jungle cat who looks after a pride of sacred lions. Blake heads out to this part of Africa and finds the legends are true. The cat King is a Tribal Chieftain who wears a special outfit consisting of a lions mane and a enchanted necklace that apparetnyl grants the speed of a puma, the cunning of a lion, and the power of a tiger to its wearer. From what Blake has seen, this is all true. He befriends the tribe, and at the first available opportunity, kills the Chieftain in his sleep and takes the totems. Using the abilities granted by these items, he manages to also kill the lead lion of the pride, eventually making a mask from his hide.
Blake now has the abilities of a cat (speed, ctealth, can see in the dark, and possibly nine lives) when he wears the totems, but he is also haunted by visions of the dead Chieftain, and the Lion he killed!
Deciding to put his new found skills to a good use (his own), Blake goes on tour, talking about his adventures in the wilds of Africa, and around the world hunting and trapping big game. In truth, he uses these tours to winnow out the wealthy in the area and steal from them. Instead of wildlife, Blakes new target is wealth. Of course, when he hits Gotham, a new objective enters his list....to take down the greatest game of all...BATMAN!
