    Black Canary & Deadman

Here is a couple of DC comics characters that I made within the last two weeks.....

This Black Canary is my third attempt to make her. The body is an original Mego body. The head is from Classic Tv toys. The leather jacket came from some Barbie doll (I took it in) and the fishnets are made by Paul Clarke (Dr. Mego). The boots also came from Paul Clarke's site.

My daughter wanted a Black Canary that looked like the new Barbie doll Black Canary that came out. So once again, back to the drawing board I created a new version of Black Canary. This one is a home run with my daughter. She has not put her down since I made her. I designed a "Green Arrow" car for the two to drive around in, it is cute.

I can't wait for that EMCE Green Arrow. I can throw this one in the garbage and salvage the body!

Last but not least a character that needs no introduction. "Deadman".
My daughter saw him on the Batman Brave and the Bold cartoon and she asked me if I could make one.

Easy to make. Parts from Classic Tv Toys website. A little cut here, a stitch there, add some paints and here you go....

Oh yeah, the head is my sculpt. I tried to go for a combination of what he looks like in the comics with a touch of "death" to the head.
I found a skull pez head and I removed it from the Pez and placed it on a rubber neck cork. Then I basically sculpted over the skull with a thin layer of sculpty to try and get the skull/death head look for Deadman and also keeping to the comic book design of the character's face. Did I do it?

    Deadman

Dude you're a customizing machine. I love your Black Canary! I think the Deadman episode of Batman: B&B is one of my favorites. You seem to be getting a lot done.

If you send Paul Clarke (Dr. Mego) an email and he still feels like throwing a set of those fishnets together, I can make you a Black Canary. This was pretty simple. All I need is a few parts off CTVT's and a Barbie leather jacket and it's complete. Send me an offline!!

              Nice!
Just curious....What do you use to get that rubbery texture to your costumes? Is it just paint, or do you treat them with something?

Actually, it is a trick I learned. My uncle came up with it and if it is done right, it does look and feel sorta like rubber or hard plastic.

Simple supplies. Colored electricians tape and a big bottle of Mod Podge Matte. The two combinations can produce some cool looking items and saves me lots of money when making my own belts and gloves.

How do you do it? Well.....

You need to have colored electrical tape. Cut it up and wrap it around the area you want (really tight). I usually use white electrical tape because it is a neutral color and I can paint it with any color. The electrical tape is what you need because it turns to "rubber like" or plastic looking; when everything is done correctly. Duct tape or masking tape or anything else will not work btw.

But first, you have to paint it the color you want. Don't gob it on. If you are making gloves, it is OK to use acrylics otherwise I would say use fabric paint.

After the paint dries. Take some Mod Podge. Go over the painted tape with it. Then after it dries, apply another thin layer of paint again, wait for it to dry and then add the last coat of Mod Podge. You can get this stuff at Hobby Lobbys or Joann Fabric type stores.

As far as cloth like body suits. I normally don't paint a suit unless it is a rare color. I use fabric paint because when it dries my figures move. If you use Acrylics, your figure will never move again.

I never coat Mod Podge over fabric paint on body suits. Just on the areas nears the home made gloves and boots to "seal them." Or maybe neck colors or home made belts.

Did I explain it good enough? I can take a step by step picture. I know some of you are thinking I am ****ing stupid and off my rocker but I like my outcomes and so doesn't my kid. The figures hold up pretty good and when you make your own belts and gloves you sure can save a lot of money.

Hey, your stuff looks just fine.I like the look your achieving with this, especially the Green Arrow...who looks like he's wearing leather instead of polyester or something. Love to see step by step pictures of the process. You explained it very well, but having pictures is priceless....Maybe Dave could even add them to the Customego how to pages?

I'll tell you what. In a couple of days; I will do a "step by step" process and take pictures. I really doubt Dave will add it to the Customego idea thingie area but I will do it for you. Thanks for the compliments. I really want my stuff to look like "MEGO" but I have been having fun creating the fake leather outfit type polyester looking suits.

Thanks for giving a ****. I'll get to you some time tomorrow or the next day.
