Sorry to here about this john. I guess I am more scenical than the rest when I say I think it's funny that this nut shows up with randy bowen talking C and D and now a member has now got one. Is this the begging of the end for customiseing figures and Parts? If they really had any sence they would hire a few of us instead of head hunting us. It would be great if they would just impose a tax of sorts as a pay as you play for a licence for custom figures. But that would make too much sence to profit off us instead of the hunting down and destroying the art form. Think of the money they could bring in off of a pay as you play tax. It ahs been a good run Type3toys you have my upmost respect ,I will always be a fan. I feel like a part of my soul just died seeing you taken out this way. Your friend forever cap mego

Man that is an absolute shame....... Such talent. This is one of those corporate greed things, If I were Marvel i'd be reaching out to with some kind of mutual venture. Those figures are just too damn good.

Doc Mego said that he's learned...that a C & D can actually be an offer, to do Business. Maybe you could end up working for Marvel?

That's the first thing that popped into my head as well.

You are no longer under the radar so to speak.
However one word resounds in my head that word is "Pheonix".
Sorry to hear and hope things work out for you.

                            >You would think they would be flattered!

This happens all the time with the garage kit producers. You can consider it an achievenemt that you gained their notice. (Well; it's kind of a backhanded compliment, but I'm trying to look on the upside here!)

                            >Is this the begging of the end for customiseing figures and Parts?

Hasn't done a lot of damage to the garage kit community.

                            >If they really had any sence they would hire a few of us instead of head hunting us.

That's kind of tricky.... they can't do anything that looks like it encourages this sort of thing. They have to protect their copyright that way. Even if they do end up hammering the little guy: if they didn't, it might encourage a bigger guy to swoop in.

As for scooping up the customizers for legit work? Most of the bigger companies probably don't care, since the decision makers are far removed from the production end, and they figure the in house sculptors; or design studios they use, are good enough. Kind of a waste; but that's how it goes.

It's interesting to see how the fan produced books, models and toys are handled in japan. There they ARE used as a sort of bush league for artists and sculptors. They're also seen as a seeder for fans, and are watched to see what sort of trends they produce. Here ebverybody's too terrified about losing their rights. (Which I think comes from a dispute Eastman and Laird had with Archie over the Turtles way back in the day.)

Back when I was dabbling in the Bonanza universe, I was told by the lawyer running Bonanza Ventures that they were signed up with some outfit that scoured e-bay looking for infringements. If you were signed up with them (and by now theres probably dozens ..even hundreds of groups out there doing this)...they would send you all the new auctions of your property every morning, and then the legal guys would go to work.
Even if your small potatoes, but still constantly post stuff for sale, they will keep a record and when they think your more than a hobbyist, they will zoom in for the kill.
