Head casting purchased from Ebay; Red Dr. Mego suit with my additions (white solitache braid); Belt disc and cuffs made from fun foam; belt created from Twill (1/2 wide); staff built from scratch; Dr. Mego white body, boots, and cape; and once more, saving the best for last, this beautiful box by Toy Room (thanks Anthony).
The Human Fly had a limited run in the 70's - only 19 issues, but a world-wide total of 47 variants! And we thought variants were just a modern day marketing tool...I was a big fan of this character because he was based on an actual stuntman which gave him an added degree of charm.
The Human Fly joins that small group of elite titles in the 70's (like Nova, Werewolf by Night, Iron Fist, and many others) that had a limited run but continue to enjoy a solid fan base through the years with some even coming back in new, successful, incarnations (like Nova).
It's fun to see so many of these characters coming to life in a way I envisioned as a kid in the 70's.
I had fun making this figure and experimented a bit with different materials. I also enjoyed painting the head cast. If the creator of that auction is on this forum, please stand up and be recognized. It's a great sculpt. The fun foam turned out to be an interesting idea that carries a number of possibilities. If your handy with a carving tool, you can create a number of shapes, even emblems, that give that added dimension (and flexibility) that a decal can't offer. I thought about putting more detail into him but decided to hold back to honor the Mego approach.
