DUM-DUM, DUM-DUM, DUM DUM DUM DUM DUM...
Here's a new addition to my Mego/Jaws collection that has been 4 years in the making. Some of you may have seen my custom made Jaws figures before, albeit in poorer quality pics. I never upgraded the pics because I wanted to wait until my "Bruce" that goes with them had a matching box made as well. Well, Mike Rogers (MEGO73), who made the figures' cards also started work on this box for my Mego-scaled shark (my wife Yana and I searched high and low for a toy-like shark that would be in scale with the Mego figures. No easy task as most toy sharks we found were way too small until we stumbled upon a pool toy shark that was about the right size.) Sadly, it's not the best Bruce likeness in any way but this is not a big deal because that's the "style" that Mego would have done in the 70's; it more than likely would have been a generic shark back then anyway (probably just the GWS from the Aquaman set) had Mego made one because that's just how they did things manufacturing-wise. So Mike Rogers and I began this process years ago and for whatever reason, the project was delayed by either me or him or both of us. We still get a laugh out of that!
Well, Yana and I have produced two Jaws Fan Films shot on Martha's Vineyard where Jaws was filmed. We are currently in production on our third film due out Fall 2010. The films are called "Lou & Yana's JawsFest'05" and "Lou & Yana's JawsFest 2: The Return To Amity". More info can be found about them at MySpace.com - LOU & YANAS JAWS FEST FILMS - 33 - Male - Amity Island, Massachusetts - www.myspace.com/jawsfestdvds
There's trailers available for viewing there as well. Anyway, we plan to shoot a segment for our next sequel "Lou & Yana's JawsFest 3: The Invasion Of JawsFest'10" which features me taking people on a "tour" of my Jaws collection and I wanted this boxed shark to be featured in the shoot as well. We plan to shoot the segment within a month or so so Mike and I had to finally put our noses to the grindstone to get this project done at last. So yesterday I came home to an enormous box and when I opened it, my Mego Action Shark that goes with my existing figures had arrived! So I took some pics to share with you all.
Mike did a FINtastic job on this! Very high quality work!!! As I said, this matching shark box was a long time coming and wasn't an easy task for Mike to complete and involved a lot of trial-and-error. In any event, we both were thrilled with the results! Take a look at how the entire set looks together...it looks like something Mego would have made in 1975-76...in fact, Mike even went so far as to use the same logo Mego used in 1975 as they later changed their logo as you all well know. So even that is accurate. Anyway, here's some nice pics of the set...
The full Mego Jaws set...

The Mego Brody, Quint, and Hooper...

The Mego Action Shark...

Figure close-ups...

The matching back sides of the packaging...

So a HUGE thanks goes out to Mike Rogers, Mego73 here on the Mego Museum!
Also, I want to mention the credits again for the figures as well:
Roy Schieder head sculpt-AUSTIN HOUGH/REPROHEADS.COM
Robert Shaw and Richard Dreyfuss head sculpts-DAVE McCORMICK
Heads painted by DAVE McCORMICK
So my thanks to you all for sharing your talent with me and making this set possible! You all should be proud of your amazing abilities!
Best,
LOU
