Matt's work is truly amazing. I was sort of a crabby anti-custom guy until I got to know Matt and saw his jaw-dropping creations. They won me over. Now I'm a fun-loving, pro-custom sort of guy. I am very happy to see Matt's Coffin Joe getting so much praise and attention. I believe it is one of his crowning achievements, which is saying a lot, considering the consistently high standards he has maintained throughout his body of work. And I am happy and relieved that one of these figures survived the Brazilian mail system to find its way into the clawed hands of the real Coffin Joe, Jose Mojica Marins. His producer told me Mojica was extremely pleased.Comment

Where'd you get the cloak clasp and medallion from? Did you cast those yourself?
If you did, I say that everyone on this board stand up and salute you as The Master of Fine Detail.
That medallion is even sweeter than the one that Dr. Eville wears.JediJaidaComment

The medallion is my own design as it incorporates ideas from a couple different CJ medallions. But it was pretty easy to make. I traced the basic shape on to craft foam and cut it out. I hollowed a small circle in the center. I then took a decorative upholstery tack and set it in the center for the sunburst pattern. From this master, I made a open face one-piece mold in mold putty. I then poured a resin copy. A little bit of extra sanding and the shape was perfect. At the top of the medallion, on the back, I dremeled out a small hollow, and took the two free ends of the gold chain and superglued them in there. I then filled the hollow in with sculptors putty. Finally the whole thing was painted gold.
The Tie Clasp was easiest of all. I took a piece of small gauge wire and wrapped it around a paint brush, cutting off the free ends until I had a slightly lop-sided circle. This was then tacked down to the tie at five points using black thread. I set a silver rhinestone in the center using fabric glue. Finished!
Thanks for the compliments!

BTW, I must mention that all the great photos on the first page were taken by my friend Ray here. I am always astonished what a nice job he does. He could teach a master class on action figure photography. Thanks Ray. My stuff never looked so nice!

You see? There's nothing to it!

The cape clasp was very tricky: I started with a piece of black ribbon and dipped it into clear resin and wiped it off. When it set, it was harder and more stiff. I then took a small gold jewelry mailing ring and affixed it to the ribbon. A small 4mm red rhinestone was then set on top of this. They were fused together with a drop of superglue. Then, I painted over them with several coats of high-gloss clear nail polish. I then repeated this for the other 3 jewels. It was cut to length and sewed to the cape.
