          From CBR:
"Chocolate Thunder," a 140 page graphic novel by writer/artist Jeremy Love and inker Jeff Wasson to be published by Speakeasy Comics. We caught up with Love to learn more about the book, it's long history and his feelings on Blaxploitation films.

Love says the best way to describe "Chocolate Thunder" is as a kung fu / superhero / blaxploitation epic. "It's a quasi-seventies period piece, but the time is ambiguous," Love told CBR News. "It's a fast, furious mainstream action comic for superhero fans, fight comic fans and the indie crowd. This is a Wu Tang Clan album in comic book form. I'd like the think it's in the same category as books like 'Sharknife,' 'Shaolin Cowboy' and 'Scott Pilgrim.'

"Kevin King is a presumed dead Shaolin kung fu trained CIA operative who returns to his city of origin one last time before disappearing forever," continued Love. "What he finds is a barren wasteland of heroin needles and broken dreams. Because Kevin failed to act in the past, a ruthless revolutionary/street hustler called King Solomon holds the city in his iron grip.

"So Kevin uses the skills he learned as a CIA operative to set things straight. He becomes a folk hero in the grand American tradition. Graffiti artists dub him Chocolate Thunder."

Love's been working on "Chocolate Thunder" for about eight years now, seeing publication first back in 1998, but the book in its current incarnation is a complete reworking of his original concept. This current book has taken three years of Love's life to realize and the inspiration dates back to his early childhood. "As a kid, I grew up on a steady diet of Marvel Comics, Blaxploitation flicks, kung fu theater, Saturday morning cartoons and 'Soul Train,'" explained Love. "Chocolate Thunder is all of the above melted down in one big pot, spiced up with my politics and thoughts on the plight of the black community. This is my examination of the post civil rights/post Vietnam era in the black community. I hesitate to say that because cats will think this is some kind of a polemic. Trust me, it's not. This is a funny, brutal and action packed piece of pop entertainment. Obviously, this is a very personal project."

That was from a 2006 interview promoting the GN from Speakeasy comics that didn't get released before Speakeasy went out of business. The Love Brothers had done a animated short, Chocolate Thunder: On My Way and an online comic "Hero for Sale", in which CT shows up the thuggish Luther Rage, a spoof of Luke Cage a character that Jeremy Love has no... ah... love for.

They've been working on Bayou at Zuda Comics recently but promise that they'll return to CT in the future.

BK has done an incredible job on CT (casting Sam Jackson in the role, one I'd rather see Sam in than Nick Fury). He really caught the 70s vibe in this custom that Melvin Van Peebles might call "SWEEEEEEEEEET!" Awesome job man, thanks!
Big thanks also to Toyroom who found some graphics for the box that I hadn't seen.

Awesome job BK! That was one of the more fun and interesting characters I've done a box for in a while. Thanks for the introduction to CHOCOLATE THUNDER! You should make one of these and send it to the creators over at Gettosake...I bet they'd DIG it BRUTHA! As usual you can take a lame or in this case unknown character and make him as cool as if he's always been an A-lister. Kudos once again!

Big thanks also to Toyroom who found some graphics for the box that I hadn't seen.
The pic of CT is actually a melding of two others I found, so you probably WON'T see it anywhere else....
Think OUTSIDE the Box! For the BEST in Repro & Custom Packaging!

He definitely has a "Shaft" like quality to him.
