Here's a picture of an original unshrunk Apollo with helmet on.It don't look too bad as far as head to helmet size.
Also a picture of the shrunken Starbuck head with an original helmet, it looks real bad, i cant handle it.
I did a little more work on the resized helmet and slopped some paint on it to see how some areas were looking.
I started taking some of the paint back off and thought i should take a pic before that so it doesn't get washed out by the flash again
and here's what it is looking like now next to an original for comparison.
I still have some more to do yet but it's getting there.

Nice job! The helmet with the BBP figures was too big (even for the original head, which itself was too big!) You should make a mold of the finished product to cast correct scale helmets.Leave a comment:

Battlestar Galactica Viper Pilot Helmet
Inspired by MegoKnight's BSG Apollo custom and the acetone shrinking technique he used to shrink that head, I decided to try a shrink on a Starbuck I had.
I was very happy with the results of that head shrink but then I wasn't happy with the helmet size in comparison to the new head size.
Unfortunately an acetone shrink is not possible on the helmet so a lot of cutting, dremeling, resculpting, sanding etc, etc on the original and I ended up with this first trial helmet.
I have some fine tuning to do to this resin copy yet. It's not entirely perfect with all dimensions and it really cant be without modifying the head some more.
I wanted a smaller helmet that fits closer to the new head, i'm liking how it's looking so far.
A comparison picture with Peter Burke for scale and a picture of the helmet on the newly sized head which really got washed out by the flash.
I'll post some better pictures as this progresses.
